League leader WASA FC will be keen on taking the opportunity to open a four-point gap ahead of second-placed Petrotrin Palo Seco, when the club hosts a winless Real Maracas at WASA Ground, St Joseph, from 5 pm today, in one of three TTFA National Super League matches on the cards.

Only three of the eight originally scheduled matches will be played due to problems seeking flights for three Tobago clubs which were carded to travel to Trinidad and one club from Trinidad, Guaya United, which was scheduled travel to Tobago. FC Santa Rosa’s meeting with NLCB La Horquetta SA has also been postponed.

As a result, WASA FC, which lost one and won four matches after five rounds, will enjoy some breathing space with a win over Real Maracas, which has just one point after four matches. The latter club sits above defending champion Guaya United and Joe Public on goal difference.

The Waterboys, who finished fourth from bottom in the standings last season made a strong start to the new campaign and are off a comfortable 4-0 away win over Joe Public. Former national striker Stern John was on target in the midweek fixture. Real Maracas, meanwhile, is off a 4-2 loss to Club Sando.

The two other matches today will see Coosal’s Las Lomas travel to the Marvin Lee Stadium to face Joe Public, from 4 pm, simultaneously with a clash between Defence Force and Malabar FC, respectively. The Teteron Boys are unbeaten in sixth spot, while the highly-rated Malabar FC team has yet to find consistency with a win, a loss and a draw. Malabar sits tenth in the standings.

All but one match day has been affected by issues sealing flights for teams travelling between Trinidad and Tobago thus far. The date of postponed matches are yet to be announced.
