United Petrotrin coach Brian Williams was on the wrong end of the hatchet this week after the club made a surprising move to replace him as head coach of the team.
Williams who has served the Oilmen for the past three years is replaced by Leon Carpette. However Williams’ assistant Philbert Jones and trainer Wayne Lawson are still active with the team.

The club is yet to make an official statement on the recent occurrence but Carpette’s prescence on the United Petrotrin’s bench in Friday night’s First Citizens Cup quarterfinal bout against Joe Public was a shocker to most present.

Carpette’s first match in charge was spoiled by a Grogory Richardson hattrick with Joe Public winning 4-2.

Brian’s dismissal came following a poor run of form and most recently the move by out of contract Petrotrin forwards Jerrol Forbes and Beville Joseph to League leaders CLICO San Juan Jabloteh.

In 2007 Williams temporally resigned his position in support of axed team manager Larry Joseph following the transfer of Abiola Clarence to St Ann’s Rangers.

However the club and Williams seemed to reach an agreement and he was back on the job but with a less than impressive cast of players, with the exception of Forbes, Keon Daniel and captain Romauld Aguillera, Petrotrin finished out of the Big Six in 2007.

But in 2008 after a revamp in his squad Williams led Petrotrin to the top of the standings with seven straight wins at the beginning of the season with Forbes finding early form, young defender Makan Hislop showing maturity and the addition of Lyndon Diaz a plus to their backline.

However in the last 12 League matches and two knockout competitions, Petrotrin have seemed to lost their shine despite holding 6th position on the League standings and to finish in the Big Six this season seems farfetched.
