It wasn’t the outcome the Trinidad & Tobago U-23 National Team had hoped for heading into Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Olympic qualifying. But one of the few bright spots for T&T’s U-23 side during the tournament was the play of T2 forward Rundell Winchester.

Winchester, 21, featured in both group games for T&T against St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Puerto Rico, scoring a goal in each match. His second-half goal against St. Vincent and the Grenadines sparked a rally that fell short in a 5-3 loss on Saturday. On Monday, Winchester’s sixth-minute goal paved the way to a 5-0 victory against Puerto Rico.

Unfortunately, the loss against St. Vincent and the Grenadines over the weekend eliminated the T&T U-23s from further advancing in CFU Olympic qualification.

A native of Plymouth, Tobago, Winchester now turns his attention to the senior national team. Named to T&T’s final Gold Cup roster earlier this month, Winchester will join the Soca Warriors for a training camp in Miami on Wednesday as the team prepares for its opening match of the tournament against Guatemala on Thursday, July 9 in Chicago.

With T2, Winchester has played in 13 games (12 starts) during the regular season, recording two goals and a team-leading three assists.
