Minister of Sport Dr Rupert Griffith and a team from the Sport Company of Trinidad and Tobago on Friday visited the Fishing Pond Recreation Ground where discussions took place on what measures could be taken to improve the venue.

The site visit was the fulfillment of a promise made by Dr Griffith two months ago at the prize-giving ceremony of the annual Caribbean Welders Fishing Pond Football League.

Among the team visiting Fishing Pond were Adrian Raymond, acting CEO of the SPORTT; Leon Legendre, Project Engineer, SPORTT; Anthony Blake, Head of Facility.

Speaking to Raymond yesterday, he explained that with the high profile nature of the annual Fishing Pond League, it was necessary that the ground be given some priority.

“A number of teams from all over the country play there. We had a look to see what can be done in terms of rehabilitation and future work,” he said.

Raymond said field maintenance was important and they intend to train personnel from the community to help them manage the ground.

Prakash Ramkissoon, organiser of the Caribbean Welders Fishing Pond Football League was an elated man after Friday’s visit and is looking forward to positive changes at the ground to make it more spectator-friendly for the 2015 season.
