THE UNIVERSITY of the West Indies (UWI) are undisputed champions of the Tertiary Sports Association of Trinidad and Tobago (TSATT) Football League, following a comprehensive 5-1 victory over ROYTEC in the season- ending Big Four Final on Saturday night.

Playing on their home turf on the St Augustine campus, the UWI squad hammered RO YTEC 5-1, with four of their five goals coming in a half-hour period in the second half. Aside from being crowned champions, it meant the UWI squad had won all seven of their matches this season, including five in the round-robin stage and the Big Four semi-final and final.

Saturday’s finale fittingly pitted the league runners-up against the winners, and RO YTEC, who had lost 0-3 to UWI in the league phase, did everything in their power to change the pattern for the season, defending resolutely and looking to hit UWI on the counter-attack. Even so, it was the men from St Augustine who led at the half, through a solitary item from David Lezama.

When Narshan Rullow doubled the lead just four minutes into the second period, RO YTEC’s defence fell apart and UWI added three more. Nigel Dematas made it 3-0 before Adrian Millette pulled one back for RO YTEC.

But Dematas scored again just six minutes later, and David Lezama got his second in the 80th minute to complete the rout.

UWI coach Caleb De Souza and his squad thus completed a dream season, conceding a mere four goals in the process of sweeping all before them.

Earlier in the evening, the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT ) had claimed third place with a 1-0 win over the University of the Southern Caribbean (USC).

Attention now switches to the ongoing TS ATT Netball competition. There will be a double-header on Thursday evening on the court at UWI SP EC; COST AATT will play USC at 6.00pm and UTT will play UWI at 7.00.
