A new champion of the Guinness Street Football Challenge 2016 will be crowned this weekend as 2015 winners ‘Touches’ were booted out in the last round of competition.

The final will be hosted for the first time on the sister isle Tobago at the Buccoo Integrated Facility on Saturday at 6pm. Welcoming the idea of having the final of the 6th Edition of the tournament in Tobago was Secretary for Education, Youth Affairs and Sport, Huey Cadette.

The random draw consisting of the remaining eight teams in the competition was held at the VIP Room of the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, yesterday.

The teams were divided into two groups of four and will compete using a round-robin format. Only the top two teams in each group advance to the semi- finals with the respective winners meeting in the final.

Group A is considered the “Group of Death” as three district winners were drawn together.

Group A consists of Junior Mafia, Foreign Base, Real Madrid and Who iz Next. Group B features Bring it On, Unstoppables, Chelsea and St Clair Coaching School.

The winners of the 2016 edition will walk away with $20,000 with the runners-up receiving $10,000 and the third placed team $5,000.

The winners will also book a spot in the Grand Caribbean Finals in St Lucia on July 2-3. Then, the Regional Champion will win an all-expenses paid football tour in Brazil.

Speaking at the press conference yesterday, Melicia Wilson-Aquing, Country Manager for Guinness TT , noted that this year’s Challenge started with a record of 72 teams in April and she expects fierce competition and great football on Saturday. The Chairman of Sport Company of TT , Michael Phillips, also expressed supported for the tournament and congratulated Guinness. The public is invited to come out for the final as entry is free and there will be lots of giveaways and prizes to be won. There will also be live entertainment and performances by soca artistes Pternsky and Salty.
