A resurgent Boys Town squeaked into the Caribbean Welders Fishing Pond Football League ‘Big 8’ competition yesterday with a 4-0 thrashing of Take That and Cool It at the Fishing Pond Recreation Ground.

A beaver-trick from Isaiah ‘Pogba’ Smith was enough for Boys Town to get the trhee points and knock off Manzanilla United from the eighth spot via goal difference as the race for the $30,000 first prize begins.

Boys Town had a horrendous start to the season but caught form late to reel off a succession of wins to get into the knockout phase.

They had previously defeated 2013 winners Dream Team 3-0 led by a a double from Smith and one from Keron Boatswain while also getting past defending champions G Madrid 3-1 to show they can be a problem in the ‘Big 8’.

They will face league leaders Dragon FC in the knockout round.

Dragon FC won the Raffie Morock Challenge Trophy and $1,000 for topping the league stage.

Dragon were defeated just once this season and signed off league play with a 13-0 annihilation of Spartan.

In other matches recently, Take That and Cool it whipped Manzanilla 4-1 with Leon Durity, Joel Alexander, Alvin Boisson and an own goal getting the job done.
