Kareem Perry emerged the hero for Gems, scoring the only goal in his team’s 1-0 victory over Daybreak in the Premiership Division of the Churches Football League on Saturday. The match was played at the University of the West Indies ground in St Augustine. His celebration was shortlived as he left the second round match before the final whistle, after receiving a red card in the 85th minute.
Noted to have the best defence in the league thus far, Gems continued from where it left off in the first round in which it conceded only four goals. Bethel’s new signees Nickson Hill and Nichell James scored a goal each to help their team defeat Philadelphia 3-1 in Morvant. Sule Rivers netted the other goal for the winner. Lyndon Williams netted the lone item for Philadelphia.

At the Queens Park Savannah in Port-of-Spain, Woodbrook was still unable to improve on its dismal season, going under to Curepe Amen 1-0 to remain anchored at the bottom of the standings. Amen’s topscorer Anton Spring was responsible for the win. In Rousillac, host team Point Nazarene lost to Genesis 4-2. Genesis’ goals came off the feet of Allister Pascal (two), Ceon Valcin (one) and Clinton Joseph (one). Jerberry Francis netted both goals for Point.
