ST JOHN’S UNITED bundled Joe Public, the Eastern Lions, out of this year’s Emerald Apartments and Plaza-sponsored Eastern Football Association League Cup.

Aaron Peters fired the St John’s men into a 30th minute lead before Michael Hospedales knotted up the scores for the Lions. But a Handel Manswell double, the first in the 63rd minute and the clincher in the 89th ended the Lions hopes.

League leaders Carib FC struggled to a 1-0 victory over lowly Creek SCC with a goal by scoring ace Kefim Blackford in the 74th minute.

Also advancing were Real Maracas, 1-0 winners over FA Trophy winners Valtrin United with an Aaron Mejias goal in the 65th minute. Both Barataria Ball Players and Boss FC advanced when Malabar Superstars and Scifo’s FC defaulted their match.

At the end of first round action for the Arthur “Jap” Brown Memorial Trophy in the Premiership Division, the Brewery Boys (27 points) held a three-point lead over Joe Public. And Upper Santa Cruz (20 points) held a similar advantage over nearest rivals Malabar Superstars.
