Brenton De Leon, the outstanding midfielder from Mahaica United captured the ‘Man of the Match’ award at the end of the opening match in the 2009 Southwest Superleague.

The award was presented by Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Gary Hunt De Leon scored the second goal in his team’s 2-1 victory over Vance River Ball Stars of La Brea.

The game was contested in wet conditions before a large crowd of supporters from both teams. In the 18th minute former national Under-17 forward Andre Alexis gave Mahaica United the lead and De Leon added to the score to give the Point Fortin-based team a two-goal cushion.

In the 75th minute Sid McCall pulled one back for Vance River Ball Stars but they could not get the equaliser. The next round of matches in the Superleague take place at the Palo Seco Velodrome this Friday at 6 pm with Los Bajos FC vs Newcomers of Fyzabad. Cap de Ville Lions will also meet Vance River Juniors at Mora Recreation Ground at 6 pm.
