CAP OFF YOUTHS missed a 65th minute penalty and were beaten for the $2,000 equipment cheque by Trincity Nationals in the Under-16 age-group final of the Carapichaima Super Football League.

Trincity Nationals won the title 5-4 on kicks from the penalty spot after the game was 0-0 at the end of regulation time.

Cap Off were awarded the penalty for an infringement in the area, but the Trincity goalkeeper dived to his right and parried away the kick. And in the penalty shootout, he again became the hero, stopping one kick to give his team the title.

Earlier on Saturday at the Jerry Junction ground, Waterloo, 1st FC Santa Rosa drubbed Crown Trace 5-0 in the third place play-off.

Zachary Martin opened the scoring after 20 minutes before Duane Muckette got the first of his hat-trick in the 25th.

After Antonio Auguste scored the third for Santa Rosa in the 28th minute, Muckette completed his hat-trick netting in the 54th and 61st minutes.

But it was his skipper Marcus Joseph who was voted Most Valuable Player in the age-group.

Cap off got the runners-up prize of $1,500 in equipment, a trophy and silver medals while 1st FC Santa Rosa collected $1,000 in equipment a trophy and bronze medals. Crown Trace received $500 in equipment.

At the end of the games, events co-ordinator Stephen Bartholomew noted that this year’s tenth edition of the league was very competitive having reverted to the original format.

He promised to extend the invitations for teams from 36 to 48 and include a girls division for the 2011 season.
