The South African World Cup excitement was evident on Sunday evening when T&T American Youth Soccer Organisation (T&TAYSO) played its final match of their season against Jan Steadman’s football team.

The game took place at the Larry Gomes training field, Malabar. Though the age group of the players were Under-12’s, the on-field action was sizzling, as elated supporters enjoyed the end-to-end action.

T&TAYSO prevailed over their southern counterparts by a healthy margin of 8–2. T&TAYSO, which is a member of T&T Football Federation and Fifa, is also an affiliate of the parent body, American Youth Soccer Organisation (AYSO) and will be representing the country at AYSO’s National Games in West Palm Beach, Florida. The event is scheduled to run from July 3-12.

The bi-annual tournament provides a unique opportunity for cultural exchange with almost 200 AYSO teams from across the globe.

The local chapter has been in training to put their best foot forward for what would be the little ones’ first experience on foreign soil.

T&TAYSO would be carrying a contingent of about 70 children comprising U12, U14, U16 and U19 age groups.

T&TAYSO is a non-profit organisation whose sole purpose is to provide community service toward establishing a quality youth soccer programme, dedicated to youth and social development through football.
