Eagles United took the lead atop the Central Football Association Premier League Big Four standings after a high-scoring 6-3 defeat of Harlem Strikers on Monday at Woodford Lodge Recreation Ground, Chaguanas.

Eagles lead the Big Four with that victory in their opening match, while the other contendeers, Caroni Connection and Leeds United, both have a single point after playing to a 1-1 draw. Malcolm Nedd opened the scoring for Caroni Connection in the 19th minute, but Trent Lookeed equalised for Leeds United in the 61st minute.

Harlem Strikers had a fast start to Monday's match, which saw Jared James opening the scoring in just the first minute of play.

But Eagles responded swiftly and equalised a minute later through Adrian Emmanuel.

Eagles then took the lead for the first time when Emmanuel netted his second goal in the 18th minute and Glenwell John scored in the 33rd minute to give Eagles a 3-1 advantage at the half.

John went on to complete a beaver-trick, scoring three more times in the second half.

Harlem again had a good start after the break, Daniel Wells scoring within two minutes. Eagles' lead was then only 3-2 but John (49th, 77th and 84th) then completed his beaver-trick as Eagles went ahead 6-2.

Near the end, James got his second item for Harlem in the 89th minute.
