The RSSR Football Academy continues to instill education and personal development first, in every player at the club, with intention of creating mentally grounded, confident and skilful teams, of all age groups.

Presently, the club’s main focus is on their Under-13 squad, which consists of approximately 46 youngsters, also including some six-year-olds.

Over 90 percent of the club’s footballers are from Laventille, Morvant, John John, Beetham and Sea Lots.

These youths assemble at the Morvant Savannah, Port-of-Spain, every Saturday and Sunday, from 9 am, and go through their routine under the watchful eyes of the club’s coaches and technical staff.

Head coach of the Academy is Dexter Harris and the club’s director of coaching is Reynold George.

Chairman of RSSR Ruthvin Charles, acknowledged the club’s developmental programmes and reiterated the significance of nurturing a well developed mind before anything is done in any major sport.

He explained, “These programmes are necessary for young personal development. Our youths must have a sound education first, before entering the sport world.

They must be able to read and write and not depend entirely on sports alone.”

“We are currently still looking at report books from the last term to ensure that our students are doing well in school and not falling back, ” he continued. Charles mentioned that the club’s agenda always entails field-trips to historic sites in Trinidad and Tobago, such as Fort George, San Fernando Hill and the Devil’s Woodyard.

These are directed toward educating the youngsters on the nation’s history and to attain camaraderie amongst the players of all the club’s age groups.

The club chairman mentioned that once proper personal communication is established among the players, they would have a mental connection and awareness of each other on the field of play.

“These are designed to make the youths comfortable around one another and bring unity amongst all our players,” added Charles.

The RSSR Football Academy has put much interest in two of the club’s players who may possibly make the national team.

Brothers Dylan (forward) and Richard Anderson (defender) are products of the club’s system and are working toward achieving a position on the national squad, and still fly the RSSR banner.

The club’s Under-15, 17 and 21 will commence training at the end of March as they prepare to take part in local tournaments.

RSSR will register an U-17 and Open team for the North Zone Football Association tournament in July and U-15,17 and 21 squads for the Eddie Hart league in Tacarigua, during August.
