Future national team talent may have been scouted when 15-year-old Dasha Mitchell was picked up during the recently concluded bpTT Mayaro Football Clinic, held at the Mayaro Resource Centre.

The camp was administered by former national player and accredited T&T Football Federation (TTFF) coach Devon Bobb who made the “discovery” of Mitchell.

Following the conclusion of the camp, Bobb described his experience as exciting, especially as the coaches were able to spot someone as young and talented as Mitchell.

“They really put their hearts into it and I’m proud to have gotten this opportunity to coach them. It was especially exciting for me because Dasha Mitchell came out of nowhere and blew us all away,” said Bobb.

Bobb has since made arrangements for the youngster to attend trials with the National Under-17 Women’s team. “I’m sure that she will make the team, her home community and the entire country proud,” said Bobb.

The clinic, which ran from August 2 to 19, was sponsored by the energy company bpTT and hosted select players between the ages of six to 16 from the south-eastern community. Ronda Francis, Corporate Responsibility Manager at bpTT, said she was proud with the results of the camp.

“Our focus has been on helping young people to discover and develop their talents and Dasha is a great example of this,” said Francis. “Whether it is academics, sports, culture or the arts, bpTT will always support the keepers of our nation’s future —our wonderful, talented children.

“It was rewarding seeing them learn, grow and just have fun together.” As a reward for their efforts, each participant received a certificate of participation and an equipment bag courtesy of the sponsors.
