Nicholas Mason banged in a beaver-trick as Dathea slammed NASC 9-0 in its final round-robin Group B match which secured a quarterfinal spot in the 16-team Santa Cruz Football Organisation Monteco Cup on Thursday.
Mark Alibet added a double while Ricardo James, Kerry Mitchell and Holland Joseph chipped in with one each in the lopsided victory on a lush green e Brian Lara Recreation Ground, Sam Boucaud, Lower Santa Cruz.
With the victory, Dathea climbed to the top of Group B with five points from its three matches, one ahead of Back Street and Pipiol which face off tomorrow at the same venue to determine the other qualifiers. Back Street enjoys a better goal-difference of plus-six to Pipiol’s plus-two and will advance with a draw while the latter needs nothing less than a victory.
On Wednesday, Jelani Felix netted twice as Hot Shots whipped Bourg Mulatresse 3-1 to seal top spot in Group A ahead of San Juan/San Juan on goal-difference after both teams attained six points from three matches. Kylan Gray also scored for Hot Shots while Junior Wells was on target for Bourg Mulatresse.
San Juan/San Juan missed out on top spot in the group after a surprise 3-1 loss to Sam Boucaud which got a brace from Shered Joseph and one from Kefim Blackford. Former national midfielder, Handel Manswell got San Juan/San Juan’s consolation strike.
So far the qualifiers for the quarterfinals are Hot Shots, San Juan/San Juan, Dathea, Fire Service, River Plate and Police. The winner of the tournament will walk away with $10,000 while second gets $5,000, third $2,500 and fourth, $1,500.
