Former national footballer David Nakhid was forced to miss the World Cup encounter between T&T and St Kitts/Nevis last night because of the death of his mother Rita Harrison-Nakhid at her home in Champs Fleurs earlier in the morning.

Nakhid was in the process of boarding a flight along with FIFA vice-president Jack Warner when he received news that his mother had died.

Rita, who had seven children (four boys and three girls), was ailing for some time with a liver problem which led to breathing complications. She will be buried on Wednesday at the St Joseph Cemetery following a service at the Cathedral of the Emmaculate Conception in Port of Spain from 10 am.

Nakhid, a former national Captain who retired from international football about five years ago, was due to return to his home in Lebanon after the T&T match in St Kitts.
