DEFENCE FORCE climbed to the top spot in the Premiership Division of the CNG National Super League on Sunday, after they drew 1-1 with Petrotrin Palo Seco in their Match Day 17 fixture.

The game was staged at the Palo Seco Velodrome, with the hosts taking the lead in the 27th minute through Cebastian Bailey.

But Defence Force evened the scores in the 65th when Jahvon Neptune found the back of the net.

With the result, Defence Force have 35 points while Guaya United are next with 34.

The meeting between Guaya and Marabella Family Crisis Centre was postponed since both teams were involved in respective First Round matches in the Toyota Classic competition.

Third-placed Tobago FC Phoenix 1976, formerly 1976 FC Phoenix, were beaten 2-1 by mid-table outfit Matura Re United at the Matura Recreation Ground.

Deon Capriata gave Matura a 26th minute lead but veteran Lejandro Williams equalised in the 78th. Matura regained the lead for the second time, this time for good, in the 84th through Kitwana Abosi.

FC Santa Rosa moved up two spots to fourth after edging WASA FC 1-0 at the Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya. Avery Cabralis was the goal-getter, in the 23rd.

Jason Boodram notched a double as Police overcame Siparia Spurs 4-2 at the Petrotrin Ground, Fyzabad. Boodram scored in the fifth and 54th, while Kareem Perry (64th) and Kenaz Williams (66th) were the other goal-getters for Police. Siparia were indebted to strikes from Chris Collins (ninth) and Andre Quashie (50th).

At the Larry Gomes Stadium in Arima, NLCB La Horquetta blanked Real Maracas 3-0, with goals from Omeaku Barbour (31st and 36th) and Cedric Commissiong (66th).

On Saturday, Stokely Vale finally registered a victory, with a 2-1 result over Bethel United at the Plymouth Recreation Ground.

Kevin Thomas scored twice for Stokely Vale, in the 27th and 89th, while Devon Stewart replied for Bethel in the 86th.

Match Day 18 action will be contested on Thursday.
