THREE NEW champions were crowned yesterday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium when the curtain came down on the Atlantic Primary School Football League.

In the inaugural Boys Under-11 competition, Tunapuna Boys RC put the first lien on the prestigious trophy when they whipped San Fernando Boys’ RC 3-0 in the first game of the triple-header.

Treveon Weekes put the Eastern champion ahead in the third minute before Antawn Willaims put the favourite two goals up in the 13th-minutes.

The Tunapuna squad came out firing in the second half and Randy Antoine added a third two minutes upon the resumption to ensure success for the Tunapuna RC. Tyrique Sutherland of Tunapuna Boys RC, was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) for this category.

The Girls Under-15 Finals was a heart-breaker for the Tobago champions Mason Hall Government who only have themselves to blame for their defeat. Mason Hall missed a penalty in the 13th minute when Patrice Mc Gillvery made a wonderful save to ensure her team stayed in the game.

At the end of regulation time the score was deadlocked at 0-0. Extra time did not help to get a winner and so the result came through sudden death penalty kicks.

At the routine round of kicks the scores were tied 3-3 but one of the Mason Hall strikers missed leaving it up to Angel Jagdeen to become a hero and the ‘Angel of Moruga’ if she scored. The young player walked confidently up to the ball and placed it past the Mason Hall custodian to give them their first ever National title. McGilvery was named as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the Girls Under-15.

In the Boys Under-15 category Eastern Boys Government turned back the clock and outplayed their Tobago rivals Whim Anglican to win the final 3-1. The Por-of-Spain champions raced into an early lead and in the seventh minute Jahlil James put Eastern ahead. In the 21st minute after a good combination Kidane Lewis banged in the second for Eastern Boys Government.

In the second session Whim Anglican lifted their game and began to force the Port of Spain champs into error but they responded on a quick break to go three goal ahead with a strike from Jaheem Cudjoe. It looked to be ‘all over bar the shouting’ but Ajahne Toney struck home for the Tobago champs and again, the game was on. But, neither team would score again and at the blast of referee Inskip Carrington, Eastern Boys were champions.

Jerome Mitchell was adjudged the ‘Most Valuable Player (MVP).
