National Under-15 girls champion Moruga RC advanced to the semifinal round of the Atlantic Primary School Football League when they won a thriller at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port-of-Spain yesterday.

The match was expected to a very highly competitive one and it lived up to expectations with the champions edging the two-time champion St Agnes AC 2-1.

The hard-fought encounter saw St Agnes AC scoring first through Aaliyah Diaz in the 11th minute, to give the St Agnes supporters something to cheer about.

However in the second session just when it looked like St Agnes would defeat the champion, a change of tactic saw the Moruga-based team change their aggression. The coach sent Jayriel Charles into the attack and she began to wreak havoc in the St Agnes defence.

With two minutes on the second session gone, Charles placed a simple shot past Africa Lewis in the St Agnes goal.

Just when everyone was preparing for over-time Charles struck again with two minutes left on the clock to give the champion a ticket to the semi-final. Moruga will now meet Vos Government School in the semifinal. Vos progressed by whipping Sangre Grande Government 2-0.

Moruga’s Charles was named the Most Valuable Player of the match.

At the Larry Gomes Stadium, Tunapuna Boys’ AC now known as Good Shepherd AC got the better of St David’s RC by a slender 1-0 margin.

In Tobago, the twin-island champion’s St Andrew’s AC defeated Penal RC 6-2 setting up a clash in the semifinal with Good Shepherd.

Tomorrow, the U-15 boys will take to the field with eight-time national champions Arima Boy’s RC coming to town to take on Nelson Street Boys RC at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

At the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Penal RC will take on Mayaro RC while Victoria champion Mon Repos RC will meet Sangre Grande Government at the Larry Gomes Stadium.
