New Boys champions to be crowned.

Defending Girls champions Carapichaima RC look on course to win their second national title in two years as the Atlantic LNG Primary Schools Tournament enters the final stage today at Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain.

Last Wednesday, at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Tobago, national girls champs Carapichaima RC were made to fight by Tobago champs and powerhouse Montgomery Government in the clash of the giants in the Girls semi-final of the Atlantic LNG-sponsored competition.

The game was decided by outstanding youth player Zoe Swift whose strike in the 12th minute of extra-time gave the champions a chance to lift the title for a second time in two years.

Swift put her team ahead in the fifth minute before getting the game winner in the 52nd minute.

Today, Carapichaima will meet Claxton Bay Government, who marched into the final when they beat Roxborough Anglican School 2-0 in the other semi-final at Manny Ramjohn Stadium on Friday.

In a keenly-contested game, Claxton Bay had to thank top player Esther Kirk for her second half double. And despite being pressed by Roxborough, Claxton Bay showed their mettle and held on for a good victory.

Their clash with champions Carapachaima will be worth travelling miles to see.

This year will see a new boys champion crowned with Carenage Boys Govt being defeated by Eastern giants, Arima Boys RC, in one of the best primary school matches ever witnessed at Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella last Wednesday.

The eagerly-awaited re-match between last season’s champions Carenage Boys and Arima Boys had all the ingredients to make it a memorable game and the players did not disappoint.

It took 80 minutes and ten penalty kicks to separate the two schools in a thrilling semi-final.

Arima Boys RC proved stronger in the spot kicks and earned a spot in the final with their 3-1 triumph from the spot. They will meet Santa Flora Government in today’s final.

This will be Santa Flora’s first time in the final. They earned the right to compete for honours last Wednesday when they edged Bon Accord Government 3-2 in extra-time in another closely-contested affair.

Arima Boys RC are the favourites to win but Santa Flora Government cannot be underestimated.
