Carrington gets National U-15 coaching job.
By: Shaun Fuentes (TTFF).
21-Jul-2007 - Former National Senior Team midfielder Reynold Carrington has been
given the job to prepare and coach this country’s National Under 15 team for
the upcoming Caribbean Football Union Youth Cup.
The 37-year-old Carrington, who has represented T&T at the World Cup
qualifying level and also captained the team at one time, has been focusing
heavily on his coaching since retiring from playing. He was recently among the
top performers at the coaching symposium with the Dutch Royal Academy which
allowed him the chance to undergo further courses in Holland.
Current National Under 17 team head coach Anton Corneal, also youth development
officer of the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation, said the decision was
taken by the TTFF to hand the role to Carrington as he would gain the right
exposure working with the youth and he also carried the right attributes for the
position.
“This is really the first stage of the preparations for 2009 Under 17 World
Championship and is one similar to what we went through two years ago,”
Corneal told TTFF Media.
“This gives us a chance to start competing at an early age.. it’s where we
start weaning players. This tournament is a good start for any Caribbean
team,” he added.
“All the players may not go through the final stages in 2009 but once this
type of early preparation is done properly you will get a nucleus that will stay
together for two years similar to what we are now experiencing with the current
team that has qualified for the World Championship in Korea,” Corneal
continued.
Muhammad Isa has been the coordinator for the screening sessions which begun
earlier this month at the Ato Boldon Stadium with some 120 players coming from
four regional associations. He said that the response has been overwhelming thus
far with 38 players being selected. Those players have undergone three training
sessions under Carrington and assistant coach Terrence Marcelle at the Marvin
Lee Stadium.
“We have seen a very eager bunch of players since the process started. The
players have all shown keen interest and the response has been very nice from
the different zones. We expect this to continue as the team itself continues
preparations going into the tournament,” Isa said.
There will be another screening session at the Dwight Yorke Stadium on Wednesday
from 10am for Tobago players and then one at the Mayaro Resource Learning Centre
on Friday morning for the Eastern Counties Association. The current squad of 30
players will train this week as well at the Marvin Lee Stadium.
T&T will host the third edition of the Caribbean Football Union’s
Caribbean Under 15 Youth Cup from August 18-30, 2007. T&T opens the
tournament against Aruba on August 18.
This year’s tournament will not serve as qualifiers for the CONCACAF Final
qualifying round and subsequent World Championship unlike the 2006 edition
which was an Under 16 level competition with the top Caribbean teams moving on
to the final qualifying round towards the FIFA Under 17 World Championship. And
only Central Americans El Salvador will be the guest nation participating this
year.
Meantime, Corneal will continue to conduct training sessions with the current
National Under 17 team at the Ato Boldon Stadium as they prepare for Korea.
Reynold Carrington tops coaches' wish list.
By Lasana Liburd.
14-Nov-2002 - Brazilian Rene Simoes could not do without him, Hannibal Najjar
wants to keep him close although he is injured and all six Pro League coaches
approached would welcome him on their team. Versatile Vibe CT 105 W Connection
captain Reynold Carrington was the most influential player in the Trinidad and
Tobago Pro League this season. Six coaches cannot be wrong.
The Trinidad Express newspaper gave eight Pro League coaches the chance to
select their own All Star team for the 2002 season in whatever formation they
saw fit.
They were also asked to select their top three players.
One catch, though. Noone was allowed to select a player from his own club.
Seven coaches complied with the request in time for this edition of the Sport
Magazine.
The most popular system was the 3-5-2 and most coaches wanted Carrington at
either sweeper-back or as a holding midfielder.
He also ended ahead of his peers in the running for the unofficial Player of
the Year title when the coaches were asked to select the three most
influential players.
A first pick carried five points while second and third pick meant three
points and one point respectively.
Attacking CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh midfielder Otis Seaton was not far
behind.
Hardly anyone is sure of what to call him these days. His passport, after all,
bears the name Aurtis Whitley.
But his mixture of strength, enterprise and skill won him the respect of the
coaches who struggled to contain him.
Seaton’s teammate, Ian Gray, was also praised for his stellar defensive
performances which helped him to break into the national senior team for the
first time.
Comfortable at central defence or left back, Gray looked sound in defence and
attack for the eventual Pro League winners with his good reading and powerful
running.
Defence Force striker Jason Scotland’s knack for crucial goals also earned
him several picks.
There were special mentions for North East Stars utility player Nigel Hart,
Caledonia AIA midfielder Conrad Smith and prolific Starworld Strikers forward
Sean Julien who led the league in scoring.
Fire custodian Phillip Ramon-Fortune did not win a place but was also
applauded for his leadership qualities and heart.
Arnold Dwarika missed approximately two months of play after being cut from
Joe Public but the dreadlocked dribbler did not miss a beat when he joined
rivals, Connection.
His was another popular name with the coaches.
Connection’s St Lucian striker Titus Elva input off the bench was met with
respect as well.
But it was their captain, Carrington, who stole the show.

Reynold Carrington welcomes recall to squad.
15-Dec-2001 - Midfielder Reynold Carrington is
ready to rumble as Trinidad and Tobago prepare for next month's Gold Cup in
the United States.
Carrington, who was previously overlooked by national coach Professor Rene
Simoes, has been given a new lease on life by being reunited with the Soca
Warriors. The national coach previously stated that he wanted to groom 'young
blood' and Carrington was no longer part of the Trinidad and Tobago team.
The 31-year-old W Connection player emphasised that the Gold Cup is a
prestigious tournament. "It's a good opportunity to be back with the
national team and to go to the Gold Cup which is a major event in the world of
football. I had a very good season with W Connection so I think my confidence
is very high," he said. Carrington praised Professor Simoes for doing
"a good job with the Trinidad and Tobago team and you just have to give
him what he expects of you". The national player said he deserved to be
part-and-parcel of the national team. "In the position that I play which
is defensive midfield, I am one of the more experienced in that position.
Professor Simoes can see my enthusiasm for the game and I think it was a wise
choice by him to include me in the squad. I am extremely confident of doing
well in the Gold Cup," he ended.
