De la Rosa scored twice as Providence won 5-3. -Photo: CURTIS CHASEProvidence Girls High School successfully defended their BG T&T North/East Zone InterCol title yesterday with a 5-3 win over St Joseph’s Convent Port of Spain in the final at St Joseph’s Convent Ground on Serpentine Road.

Melissa Woo Ling opened the scoring for Providence with a penalty and a double from Akeisha De La Rosa and a goal each from Samantha Kissoon and Stephanie Woo Ling completed the scoring for the champions.

The game was a keenly-contested affair, with St Joseph’s skipper Megan Murray finding the back of the net twice, while Stephanie Nahous added another goal to keep their title hopes alive, but they could not get closer as they continue to play second fiddle to the North Zone league champs.

In other results yesterday, Point Fortin East Secondary booked their place in the South Zone final thanks to a 2-0 win over Fyzabad Anglican in the first game of a double-header at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre.

In the second match at Guaracara Park, Debe Secondary defeated Holy Faith Convent 7-0 to secure their spot opposite Point Fortin in the zonal final.

Providence wins North/East girls title.

Akeisha De La Rosa scored two goals that helped Providence beat St Joseph’s Convent 5-3 in BGTT Girls InterCol North/East final at St Joseph’s Convent Ground in St Clair yesterday.

Sisters Melissa Woo Ling and Stephanie Woo Ling together with Samantha Kissoon also chipped in for Providence, while Megan Murray (2) and Stephanie Nahous were the goalscorers for St Joseph’s.

Meanwhile, in the double header at Guaracara Park, Point Fortin East Secondary and Debe High each recorded wins to earn a spot in the South Zone final.

In the first match, Point Fortin beat Fyzabad Anglican 2-0 with goals from Shanice James (38th) and Shennel Jordan (67th).

In the following game, Mariah Shade scored a hat-trick as Debe trounced Holy Faith Convent 7-0.

Shade scored in the 44th, 50th and 54th minutes while Patrice Vincent (40th), Kayla Taylor (46th), Elizabeth Ng Wai (68th) and Donescia Marlow (77th) each scored one. The final will be played at the same venue on Monday.
