Photo: Anthony Harris (Guardian).Tobago champion, Roxborough Secondary, upset North Zone winner, St Francois Girls’ College 3-2 in the first match of the BGTT Girls’ Secondary School League Big Four competiton at QRC grounds, yesterday.

The North champion had the worst possible start, conceding a Nathalia Benjamin goal in only the second minute. The Roxborough girls used their strength and aggression to overpower their comparatively smaller opponents, and domintated the first half.

Their defence, maned by Shaliza James, Sharee Guerra, Kerrisha George and N’Jemile Charles seemed impenetrable as St Francois forwards, Gabriella Ryan and Astride Joseph found great difficulty in getting inside the 18-yard box in the first half.

St Francois resumed the second half with a new-found desire and had two shots on goal in the first two minutes. They were silenced in the 50th, however, when Roxborough mid-fielder, Guerra found herself on the receiving end of a long cross, and easily guided the ball to the far left of St Francois keeper, Darya Rodriguez to double the lead.

Less than two minutes later, prolific goal scorer, Benjamin put her name on the scorecard once more, in similiar fashion to the previous goal. St Francois remained undaunted and continued to press. St Francois pulled one back in the 62nd minute when Chelea-Marie Spence blasted a penalty to the left of Roxborough keeper, Shanice Sylvester.

In the 71st minute, the deficit was further reduced, thanks to an own goal by Roxborough midfielder, Andrea Fraser. However, the Tobagonians held on to register the vistory. Roxborough will await the winner of the South/East clash between Debe High and El Dorado East Secondary which is scheduled for tomorrow.

In the final match of the East Zone, which was rescheduled to yesterday, Patrice Campbell scored a hat-trick as El Dorado secured the title, with a 3-1 victory over St Augustine to earn a berth in the Big Four competition. Sharice Arthur scored St Augustine’s lone goal. The finals will be played on Thursday.
