SHIVA BOYS regained top spot in the Premiership Division of the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) yesterday after a 4-2 victory over St Augustine at Irwin Park, Siparia.

Overnight leaders St Anthony’s were on a bye, and they were leapfrogged by Shiva Boys, Presentation San Fernando and Naparima on the points standings.

Presentation San Fernando got a double from Kareem Riley (57th and 76th minutes) and one from Corey Cupid (fourth) as they cruised past East Mucurapo 3-1 at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a- Pierre while Naparima got goals from Isaiah Lee (third) and Mark Ramdeen (71st) as they defeated Trinity Moka 2-0 at Moka, Maraval.

In the highly-anticipated contest between the struggling pair of St Mary’s and QRC, at the St Mary’s Ground in St Clair, the hosts prevailed by a 2-1 margin. Trey Lamont (fifth) and Tyrese Spicer (35th) netted for St Mary’s while Anthony Stokes (70th) replied for QRC.

St Mary’s College conquered their fiercest rivals, Queen’s Royal College, when they came away with a 2-1 win in their Shell/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) encounter yesterday afternoon.

Two comical long-range free kicks were the highlight of the contest which may not have lived up to its “classic” billing, but was entertaining, nonetheless.

The “Saints” were able to get the odd goal in the match when Tyrese Spicer scored with a low firm finish in the first half.

Both teams came into the match without a win for the season, and the hosts went on to take an early lead before most fans had even settled into their seats.

Daniel Conocchiari was felled out on the right, and up stepped Trey Lamont, who swung an inswinger with his left foot that beat QRC custodian Kern Thomas on the line to send the home team into an early lead.

Sport Minister Darryl Smith, who played for CIC a little over two decades ago, was one of the high profile old boys present.
