East Mucurapo, newly promoted to the Premier Division of the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL), sent a strong signal to its opponents in the Coca Cola InterCol yesterday by shutting out Diego Martin Central 2-0 in the feature match at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo.
Under coach Dale Saunders, who left T&T Pro League outfit Central FC for unpaid wages, the Mucurapo boys got an opening goal from Kevon Edwards 57th minute before Gabriel Charles completed the victory with his strike in the 84th.
Saunders congratulated his team but said they will be taking it one game at a time. “They are a very young bunch of players who are eager to learn. They have been working hard and showing the right attitude, which is important and which is sufficient for him” Saunders explained.
Mucurapo will next face SSFL North Zone giants St Mary’s College at the same venue and Saunders said while he will not make predictions, his team will attempt to progress in the tournament at the hands of a very strong CIC unit.
In another game yesterday Malick Secondary also flexed its muscles against Diego Martin Central in the day’s first match, in winning 3-0, courtesy a double strike from forward Jaheem Granderson.
Granderson tormented the Diego Martin Central defence for his two goals, before Christian Morris added another to put Malick through to the next round. In another game at Queen’s Royal College (QRC) Grounds in St Clair, St Francis, former Belmont Intermediate, clobbered Tranquility Secondary 4-2.
Tranquil’s two goals came from the boot of Kedar Mc Burnie in the 65th minute and Khalis King in the 82nd.
