National Under-17 striker Malacai Webb scored a hat-trick to help his team wrap up the second spot in this year’s Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Premiership Division after a 4-0 victory over East Mucurapo Secondary at the Mahaica Sporting Complex, Point Fortin on Friday.

In addition to the runner-up spot for last year’s league champions, Webb also moved ahead into sole possession of this year’s leading scorers’ race with 17 goals, three ahead of Malick Secondary’s Oba Samuel after both players went into the final round match with 14 goals each on the season.

With the win, St Benedict’s, also last year’s National Inter-Col runners-up to newly crowned league champions Fatima College finished the season with 35 points from 15 matches, five behind champions Fatima who got an own goal in their 1-0 win away to St Mary’s College at Serpentine Road, St Clair to put the icing on their successful campaign which ended a 45-year league title, and secured the team’s third national league crown overall after lifting its first title in 1973.

Elsewhere, San Juan North Secondary remained third with 33 points courtesy of a 2-0 win over demoted Chaguanas North Secondary while Presentation College also ended on a high with a 5-2 spanking of East Mucurapo led by a hat trick from Vaugh Clement.

However, four-time winners Naparima College were beaten 2-1 away at St Anthony’s College in the first match under assistant coach Abdallah Phillip who will oversee proceedings for the remainder of the season after the school management team opted to part ways with coach Travis Mulraine while Arima North Secondary also fell, 0-2 at Queen’s Royal College.
