East Zone runners-up San Juan Senior Comprehensive and seventh-placed Barataria Senior Secondary will kick off the do-or-die competition of the 2004 RBTT Intercol today in the first match of a double-header at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar, from 3 p.m.

San Juan will feel they have an easy task when they take the field this afternoon, but in this tournament, in which the fate of a team could be decided in one match, complacency could be a very costly attribute. A fact they should well be aware of, in a competition that has produced many a surprising outcome through persevering football by desperate contenders.

The Barataria side have been felled twice for the season by San Juan, sustaining 3-0 and 4-3 losses in the two BG T&T Secondary Schools Football League rounds, but cannot be counted out of the East Zone contest. In the second affair at the Arima stadium, mid-table teams Hillview College and St George's will be locked in a keen battle for survival in the knockout competition.

The teams have had equal success in league meetings, St George's gaining revenge for the 2-0 drubbing in the first round, by overcoming Hillview 1-0 two weeks later.

Hillview will feel they have the edge, though, having finished third behind champs St Augustine Senior Secondary and San Juan, to St George's fifth, but they will have a battle on their hands when they meet their gutsy opponents from 5 p.m.
