RAIN was the biggest winner yesterday, forcing six of the 14 BG T&T Secondary School Football League (SSFL) fixtures to be abandoned in the North, Central and South Zones.

Carapichaima East Secondary became the first team to celebrate a zonal victory and berth in the "Big Five" with a 4-1 whipping of Couva West Secondary at Couva.

Christopher Prime doubled up in the first half with goals in the sixth and 32nd minutes, and Shaquille Holder netted in the 20th.

Jasset Williams pulled one back for Couva in the 35th, but Kadeem Boyce put the match to bed for "Caps" in the 81st.

Also in Central, Tabaquite Secondary got past Waterloo Secondary 3-0, but Presentation College Chaguanas had their home fixture against Gasparillo Secondary washed out.

The North was affected by rain as well, with St Anthony's College, needing a win to take the title, suffering a rained-out away match at Fatima College's Mucurapo Road Ground.

Fatima's trip to Queen's Royal College in St Clair was also in vain, with the field too waterlogged for play.

But relegation-threatened Malick Secondary earned themselves a lifeline in the heavy rains at the Hasely Crawford Stadium Training Ground with their first victory of the season, a 2-1 win over Trinity College. Scoring for Malick were Andel Andrews and Matthew Lester.

The East Zone was hardest hit, with no play possible in any of the three fixtures.

In South, Presentation College San Fernando moved a step closer to dethroning Naparima College with a 3-0 win over Princes Town West Secondary at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium.

In the other "Mannie Ramjohn" match,  Pleasantville Secondary and St Benedict's College drew 2-2. And at Penal, Shiva Boys Hindu School trounced Vessigny Secondary 12-2.

Over in Tobago, at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet, Signal Hill whipped Pentecostal Light and Life 9-1 to stay in the hunt for the Tobago Zone title. At press time last night, Speyside Secondary were locked in battle with Mason Hall Secondary, also at the Yorke Stadium.

The rained-out North and East Zone matches will be played tomorrow.
