Local professional club Central FC launched its inaugural all-female football camp which gets going onat the Hasely Crawford Stadium’s training pitch, Wrightson Road, on Monday.

Brent Sancho, managing director at Central FC, disclosed details of the camp at All Out Restaurant and Bar, Queen’s Park Oval, Port-of-Spain yesterday.

Sancho was accompanied by two US-based women’s players, Shannon Walisch and Marissa Mohammed of the University of Tampa who are currently on a playing stint with the Central Women’s team in the TTFA’s Women’s League as well as George Romano, the club’s director of youth development and women’s football.

The camp will run from Monday to July 18th. Sessions will also be held at Presentation College’s ground in Chaguanas. Players can register on Central FC’s website, centralfctt.com or by calling 679-5060 or 755-3734. The cost is $250 for one week or $300 for the full two-week camp. It caters for girls aged eight to 18 and local prominent women will be on hand to deliver motivational and leadership talks.

“Central FC’s women’s programme is entitled ‘Respect Yourself, Protect Yourself’. Using football as a catalyst, we hope to provide mentors and role models for young girls, to provide them with health and personal safety advice, to encourage them to become team players, to become less selfish and to learn to respect themselves and others around them,” Sancho stated.

The former T&T defender added, “At our all-female football camp, not only will there be coaches such as George Romano, who spent nearly 30 years in the USA coaching college football, but also two American player coaches from Tampa University and a Trinidadian who has just returned from a US college.”

The title sponsor for the camp is Phoenix Park Gas Processors with Gatorade, Oscar Francois, Organics and the T&T Football Association among the other supporters.
