Defending League Champions National Quarries North East Stars have released five players with immediate effect.

The Guyanese trio of Carey Harris, Kayode McKinnon and Abassi Mc Pherson have all been issued with letters of termination following the violation of their contracts with the club, while Wilfrod Joseph and Davidson Neptune both mutually agreed with North East Stars to part ways.

This was confirmed by owner and CEO of North East Stars Darrel Mahabir.

Mahabir told ttproleague.com that decisions had to be made and admitted there was dissension in the camp.

“These players have been the backbone of the club, but this season they have failed to corporate and have not been giving 100%, so as CEO I had to make the tough decisions,” said Mahabir.

He added, “They will certainly be missed, but this is professional football and life goes on.”

“We have not brought in any replacements just yet—but we do have our eyes on a couple of players, however, we have promoted a number of players from within our youth ranks, the likes of Anthony Wolfe, Glenton Wolfe, Kendall Jagdeosingh, Keston Pierre, Shervin Charles and Kevin Navarro.

North East Stars have struggled this season and find themselves in 5th position on the Pro League standings on 15 points, so far they have played 11 games won 4, lost 4 and drawn 3.

However, they bounced back in their last game, surprising Pro Bowl Champions San Juan Jabloteh with a 2-1 win and Darrel Mahabir re-assured his faith in Guyanese born Coach James Mc Lean, saying, “I have full confidence in Mc Lean’s ability as a coach, I still believe he is a brilliant coach and he has done a lot for North East Stars.”
