Ronaldo Viana scored a goal on either side of the half-time whistle to lead VIBE CT 105 W Connection to a convincing 4-1 win over Caledonia AIA/Fire in round 14 action in the T&T Professional Football League Senior Division on Tuesday night.

Despite a break in league action for a month, due to T&T’s Concacaf World Cup qualifiers, the W Connection players did not seem to miss a step at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva and pressured AIA/Fire from the onset.

St Lucian striker Earl Jean opened the scoring in the 15th minute for the “Savonetta Boys” with his 10th of the league campaign.

Brazilian Gefferson Goulart pushed his league-best haul to 12 goals when he got W Connection’s second goal in the 28th minute before fellow “Samba Boy” Viana extended the lead to 3-0, three minutes before the half. Viana then dashed any chances of AIA/Fire clawing its way back into the match with his second of the match in the 58th minute.

Former W Connection and St Lucia forward, Titus Elva got a late consolation for AIA/Fire in time added on. W Connection now has 39 points from 14 matches, 13 ahead of second placed CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh, who was on a bye.

At the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, Kevon Carter fired in a first-half goal to give Defence Force a 1-0 win over struggling defending champions National Quarries North East Stars.

Carter scored in the third minute while team-mate Christon “Paw Boy” Baptiste twice hit the Stars cross-bar twice in the second-half with long-range efforts that left goalkeeper Trevor Nottingham, as a spectator. Stars went into the match without defender Ansil Elcock (injured right leg) and Walter Moore of Guyana, and striker Jaffar Munroe of Montserrat who are yet to received international transfer clearance from their respective football federations.

The win for the “Tetron Boys” pushed their points tally to 25, one adrift of Jabloteh, who was on a bye.

In the other match played, the “Oil-men” buoyed by their Cup win over AIA/Fire on Friday night, whipped Tobago United 3-1 at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar with all the goals coming in the first 45 minutes.
