Vibe CT 105 W Connection and Trinidad and Tobago National Goalkeeper Jan Michael Williams outshined all and was the star of the night to be adjudged the 2006 TT Pro League Player of the Year at the TT Pro League 2006 Awards on Saturday at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, P.O.S.

Young Williams who had an excellent 2006 season both at the pro league level and also at National level doubled his tally on the night to cop the Sports Writers award for Best Goalkeeper.

The W Connection Custodian wasn’t on hand to receive his awards, as he was on national duty with the ‘Soca Warriors’ in Costa Rica, but his proud mother was on hand and collected his prizes.

On the ‘Big Night’ it was the TT Pro League who amazed all as they put on the most glamorous football awards ever, on the local scene headed by Chairman Larry Romany and CEO Dexter Skeene whose opening remarks promised bigger and even better things in 2007 and beyond.

At the gala event feature speaker Chief Operating Officer of Guarding Holdings Limited and former President of the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee Mr. Douglas Camacho offered some thoughtful words of advice to all involved in the sporting fraternity.

It was the Pro League youth players who took the stage first with CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh’s Jerrol Britto and Daniel Joseph awarded the under-14 and under-16 Players of the Year respectively and also the top scorers respectively in their age categories.

Vibe CT 105 W Connection’s Matthew Bartholomew who also represented the senior team during the 2006 season buried the under-18 category walking away with the Player of the Year and Most Goals awards.

The Clubs were then presented with their respective championship trophies as League Champions B Mobile Joe Public was first to collect, followed CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh who grabbed both the Courts Pro Bowl and Lucozade Sport Big Six knockout Trophies. The other knockout winners, W Connection and United Petrotrin received their trophies for the First Citizens Cup and the Toyota Classic respectively.

The Appreciation Awards followed and then it was on to the Referee of the Year award, which was won by Shane De Silva, and the Assistant Referee of the Year went to Lyndon Burton.

Other top prestigious awards presented on the night were Team of the Year which was won by CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh, the Most Disciplined Team of the Year went to Vibe CT 105 W Connection while B Mobile Joe Public’s Michael Mc Comie walked away with the Coach of the Year award.

The 2006 Pro League season didn’t only produce one top scorer but two as Joe Public’s Roen Nelson and San Juan Jabloteh’s Anthony Wolfe tied for the Leading Goalscorer Award in the senior division.

Then it was on to the Sports Writers awards where Jan Michael Williams was awarded the Best Goal Keeper of the Year, Caledonia AIA’s St Lucian player Sheldon Emmanuel the Best Defender of the Year, W Connection’s Brazilian utility player William Da Silva Oliveira the Best Midfielder of the Year and Joe Public’s Jamaican striker Roen Nelson the Best Forward of the Year.

The entire awards ceremony was capped off with the announcement of the Player of the Year award going to W Connection goalkeeper Jan Michael Williams to end the proceedings.

A proud Ann-marie Williams, mother of Jan Michael Williams told ‘ttproleague.com’ afterwards, “I just wished my son was here right now because words can’t explain how I feel at this moment. I am so proud of Jan and I really wished he could have been here to receive this award. It would have been really nice for him to experience the feeling that you would feel walking up to receive the Award on stage. I have always supported Jan and his football, just like I support all my kids and tonight he has made me proud of him yet again,” ended an emotional Mrs. Williams.
