Defence Force still licking their wounds from last Friday’s 5-2 loss against W Connection in the 2008 First Citizens Cup quarter-finals struck back this week in the League trashing St Ann’s Rangers 5-1 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

However the Soldiers remain 8th on the League standings with just 16 points after Tuesday’s Round Three Match Day One clash against the First Citizens Cup semi-finalist, St Ann’s Rangers in 3rd with 28 points, ahead of Caledonia AIA on goals difference.

Top Army marksman Devon Jorsling opened the floodgates in the 20th minute but it was teammates Christopher Durity and Michael Edwards who did the rest.

Durity made it 2-0 before the half netting in the 41st minute leaving Rangers disarrayed at the break.

Edwards made it 4-0, netting his double in the 54th and 58th minutes before Durity completed his double in the 69th minute, putting the match way out of Rangers reach with a 5-0 scoreline.

Rangers’ veteran Joseph Peters pulled a goal back in the 72nd minute to finish the match 5-1—definitely not the result coach Anthony Streete was looking forward to ahead of Friday’s First Citizens Cup semi-final clash against defending champs W Connection.

In the second match of a double header played at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, League leaders CLICO San Juan Jabloteh shrugged off mid-table North East Stars 2-0.

But the win only came in the late half with Jerrol Forbes continuing his goal-scoring form in every match with the San Juan Kings when he netted in the 71st minute and Noel Williams wrapped up the 2-0 victory in the 89th minute.

New Stars coach Miguel Hackette in his first match this season can boast holding Jabloteh goalless at the break but Jabloteh are now 40 points at the top while North East Stars remain fifth with their 26 points.

Jabloteh’s closest followers W Connection also preparing for Friday’s First Citizens Cup semi-finals are with 36 points and in second on the League table after holding off bottom of the table Ma Pau SC 2-1 at the Mannie ramjohn Stadium.

Dominican Republic striker Jonathon Frias netted the winner in the 71st minute after the match was tied at 1-1—W Connection Brazilian centre back Eder Gilmar Arias opened the scoring one minute before the break while Ma Pau’s Sayid Freitas levelled the scores at 1-1 in the 52nd minute.

W Connection on course for their fifth straight First Citizens Cup will take on Rangers in the semi-finals while San Juan Jabloteh and Joe Public will battle in the second semi-final at the Mannie ramjohn Stadium on Friday.

Joe Public’s Round Three Match Day One clash against Tobago United is rescheduled for Monday 13 October as the Eastern Lions are currently in Canada preparing for today’s (Wednesday) CONCACAF Champions League Group Stage clash against Montreal Impact.

While Tuesday’s match between fourth positioned Neal and Massy Caledonia AIA and sixth positioned United Petrotrin at the Larry Gomes Stadium did not play and is rescheduled for Sunday 21 September.
