Defending champion, Clico San Juan Jabloteh extended its lead at the top of the T&T Pro Football League table to 10 points following a hard-fought 2-1 win yesterday over Ma Pau at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo.
Forbes, who has been scoring regularly since moving to Jabloteh from United Petrotrin, tapped in from close up after Oliver flicked a Trent Noel corner into his path.
Oliver scored from a Noel freekick which beat the Ma Pau defence. Before scoring, both Noel Williams and Forbes failed to make contact with the Noel kick.
A solo run by Sayid Freitas ended with Joseph scoring with a right footer from close range past goalkeeper Cleon John.
In another re-scheduled match on Monday, defender Joseph Peters, taking the place of regular goalkeeper Shane Mattis between the uprights, turned out to be the hero for St Ann’s Rangers when he saved a penalty in the 87th minute to maintain his team 2-1 result over Tobago United at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva.
Rangers stormed into an early 2-0 lead with goals from from Peters and captain, Josimar Belgrave in the 14th and 15th minute respectively.
However, nine minutes before the interval, Selwyn Isaacs reduced the scoreline for Tobago to trail 2-1 at the interval.
In an evenly matched second-half, Tobago was given a chance to earn a share of the points when Rangers goalkeeper Shane Mattis brought down Guyanese striker Collie Hercules in the area in the 87th minute.
Referee Lee Davis had little choice but to point to the spot and award Tobago a penalty, while showing the red card to Mattis.
Rangers had already made its three substitutions for the match, and Peters decided to stand in as ‘keeper.
To his team-mates delight, the veteran player showed he was very able and pulled off a stunning save to deny Hercules attempt and preserve his team’s lead
