Bernard Pantin, general manager at DirecTV predicts that players from Sangre Grande-based North East Stars Football Club will form this country’s national football team for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. DirecTV sponsors North East Stars FC. He said one or more players should earn a place as a Soca Warrior when this country begins its next World Cup campaign, citing the degree of talent resident in the club.

Pantin was speaking at the North East Stars Lucozade Sport Goal Shield victory dinner held at Woodford Cafe, located at the Fiesta Plaza in Movietowne, Woodbrook, on August 27. He addressed a gathering that included Darryl Mahabir (Japs), owner of North East Stars FC, Brent Sancho its chief executive officer and Brent Ache of Toyota.

Fourteen days earlier (Aug 13), North East Stars triumphed over Blink/Clico San Juan Jabloteh 1-0 courtesy a 76th minute strike by Jamaican forward Sean Fraser to clinch victory at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya. With a player down and its first choice goalkeeper injured out, North East Stars demonstrated bout skills and tact on the field to bring home the title.
