Extra time goals by Jerrel Britto and Jason Marcano gave San Juan Jabloteh a 2-0 win over Bmobile Joe Public on Friday night at the Marvin Lee Stadium in the Round of 16 booting the 2009 winners out of this season’s competition.
It was the feature clash of the Round of 16 and after 90 minutes, it followed similar fashion of an earlier clash between Caledonia AIA and Defence Force Super League which went into extra time.
Seconds into extra time substitute Jerrel Britto was well positioned to tap into an open net when he was picked out by another substitute, Hector Sam from the left to give Jabloteh a 1-0 advantage.
Joe Public trouble doubled two minutes later when Jevon Morris was adjudged to have fouled Marcano inside the area when referee Nigel Roberts pointed to the spot.
Marcano poised himself over the ball and comfortably slotted it into the right corner beating goalkeeper Marvin Phillip who dived the wrong direction putting the scores 2-0.
Jabloteh who finished the match with 10-men following defender Jamal Jack’s red card sending off in the 110th minute joins fellow Pro League clubs Ma Pau SC, St. Ann’s Rangers, DIRECTV North East Stars, Defence Force and Caledonia AIA in quarterfinal round of the 2010 FA Trophy.
Jack who provided some good defending during regulation time sacrificed himself with a late tackle on Andre Toussaint just outside the area as the Joe Public attacker weaved his way towards the penalty area.
The goalless regulation time saw Jabloteh failing to hit the target in the 27th minute after a decent buildup towards goal after Willis Plaza and Marvin Oliver exchanged a number of passes before Plaza was set free on the right. However the makeshift forward’s effort was too high.
Joe Public winger Hayden Tinto had an excellent opening when a missed clearance landed the ball in his path, but despite being one on one with goalkeeper Cleon John, Tinto was unable to beat the Jabloteh custodian.
The Lions had another opening in the 58th minute however defender Jevon Morris failed to do best after meeting Kareem Young’s cross from the right when he headed overbar.
In the earlier clash on Friday night Caledonia AIA were on the winning side of a hardfought 2-1 score over the Super League Defence Force.

Caledonia forced to work extra time for win over Army Super League outfit.
Caledonia AIA were made to work extra time for a 2-1 win over a 10-man Defence Force Super League outfit in their FA trophy Round of 16 clash at the Marvin Lee Stadium on Friday night.
Caledonia broke the deadlock two minutes into the second period when striker Conrad Smith side footed Kareem Joseph’s cross from the right clipping the underside of goalkeeper Kerwin Beckles’ crossbar and into the net for the 1-0 advantage.
But the Soldiers leveled the scores 1-1 in the 90th minute through a freekick by substitute Sterling O’Brien from some 22 yards out beating goalkeeper Kevin Graham on his left and forcing the match into extra time.
It was not until the 111th minute when Caledonia were gifted a freekick inside the area for parrying by goalkeeper Kerwin Beckles, came the winner.
The set piece was taken by Ryan Stewart who played it short to defender Ishmael Daniel who curled a leftfooted shot inside the far upright and into the net for the winner against a packed Defence Force first post.
The win sees Caledonia into the quarterfinal round of the FA, joining fellow Pro League outfits Ma Pau SC, St. Ann’s Rangers, DIRECTV North East Stars and Defence Force.
Despite being showed the exit, the Defence Force Super League outfit deserved applauds for its second half showing.
Following the opening item by Caledonia, Kevin Pierre tried to pull the scores level in the 50th minute for the Soldiers, but his low effort from just inside the area took a deflection off defender Kareem Joseph putting it out for a corner.
Defence Force then shot itself in the leg when team captain Rodphin Harris was shown a direct red card by referee Rashby Mc Phie in the 74th minute after elbowing Caledonia substitute Ryan Stewart, reducing the Soldiers to 10-men.
But that didn’t hamper the Soldiers efforts to pull the scores level in the final seconds of regulation time through O’Brian.
Defence Force threw warnings Caledonia’s way before the equalizing item when in the 87th minute O’Brian unleashed a freekick from 20 yards out only to see the wall guide his effort over for a corner.
And seconds later from the corner Kevin Pierre forced a brilliant save out of goalkeeper Graham when he headed a flick on towards goal.
However after four minutes of injury time no goals were scored sending the clash into extra time in which Caledonia registered the winner in the 111th minute.
