THE TRINIDAD and Tobago women football team are preparing for a forthcoming camp in Houston, Texas, United States, as they get ready for the Women’s Caribbean Cup.

The Caribbean Cup will take place here in the twin-island republic from August 19-26.

The national team recently played a pair of matches against Venezuela and, according to manager Vanessa Flanders, “the team has continued to train. We’ve never stopped. We’ve had our trainer (Dexter Thomas) trying to get them fit. We have a fixed programme with the trainer right now. He’s currently working on the fitness of the team, together with (assistant coach Marlon) Charles.”

American Randy Waldrum was appointed as the team coach last month, replacing Marlon Charles who later agreed to serve as Waldrum’s deputy.

Asked about the communication between Waldrum and the technical staff, Flanders said, “they have been conversing every day. They’re liaising with him so they’re on the same (page), until the team goes up to meet him.”

The national team are expected to play a few practice matches at Houston and Flanders pointed out that a number of TT players will be making the trip to the US.

“We are looking at, taking from Trinidad, some 25 players,” she said. “We have a couple of girls that would be meeting us in the camp. Some new girls are coming out to try, from Canada and from within the US itself.”
