The majority of players and staff of T&T’s senior women’s national football team, which will participate in a lengthy training camp in Houston, Texas, USA, have departed Piarco.

According to Sharon O’Brien, an official at the T&T Football Association (TTFA), several players left on Monday and some on Tuesday.

Several of the players and team officials faced delay due to problems associated with securing visas and passports.

Marlon Charles, the team’s assistant coach was in T&T up to yesterday.

The duration of the camp is one month, but, because the delays, the length of the camp has been cut by nearly two weeks.

The team is expected to play a couple of practice matches, under the guidance of new head coach Randy Waldrum before returning to T&T.

The team is scheduled to return home on August 17. Two days following their return, T&T will host the inaugural CFU Women’s Caribbean Cup, the phase before the last round of qualifiers for the Fifa Women’s World Cup, in Canada, next year.

The Soca Princesses will kick Group B on August 20 against St Kitts and Nevis. The other teams in T&T’s group are Martinique and Antigua and Barbuda.

A semifinal berth will assure qualification for the Concacaf Women’s Championship.

Three spots are open for qualification to the World Cup from Concacaf, with an additional playoff spot against a Conmebol oppenent up for grabs.

Canada has automatically qualified for the 2015 Women’s World Cup as tournament host.
