This country’s Under-17 Women Soca Warriors missed out on a spot at next year’s Concacaf Women’s Finals to be held in St George’s, Grenada, March 3-13 after going under to rivals Jamaica, 1-0 in the first of two Caribbean Football Union semifinals at the Estadio Juan Roman Loubriel, Bayamon, Puerto Rico on Friday night.
In a tightly contested match, Jamaica’s Malee Fray had the first real opening in the 83rd minute when she found an aerial ball which she nodded to give her team victory. In today’s final from 7 pm, at the same venue, Jamaica will come up against Haiti, 3-2 winners over Cuba in the other semifinal.
Haiti’s Nelourde Nicolas put her team ahead in the 16th, but seven minutes later Sairy Ferrer drew the Cubans level after which both teams failed to find the winner in regulation time.
Five minutes into the first period of extra-time, Nerilia Mondesir regained the lead for Haiti and a few minutes later Pierre Lovelie fired home from the edge of the 18-yard box tom make ot 3-1 while Cuba managed a second item in the final minute of extra-time, through Wendy Corcho, but it was too little too late. Prior to the final, T&T and Cuba will clash for third spot.
