T&T U-17 girl’s football team eked out a 4-2 penalty shoot-out win over their U-20 counterparts after a 0-0 draw at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Centre of Excellence, Macoya on Saturday.

The U-17s were using the match as part of their preparations for the Concacaf Under-17 Championship which kicks off in T&T on Thursday until Saturday July 27.
Saturday’s match was a tune up before the qualifying tournament. The U-17s showed composure and creativity going forward.
US-based forward, Jessica De Leon, daughter of former national player Leroy De Leon had an excellent match, causing all kind of problems for her opponents.
She linked well with Sydney Hoareau and captain, Mariah Shade, but the pace of the U-20’s caused some discomfort for the defence marshaled by Karyn Forbes.
In the end the match was a good exercise for T&T coach, American Randy Waldrum and his players who will compete in Group A of the eight-team tournament, against Costa Rica, El Salvador and USA.
Group B, to be played in the sister-isle at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet and which kicks off on Thursday comprises Canada, Jamaica, Mexico and Puerto Rico. T&T will meet El Salvador in its opener on Friday followed by Costa Rica two days later and then, the USA on July 22.
