Hector Sam suffered a broken leg during Vale's Carling Cup tie deafeat against Rotherham.

In the 82nd minute, Lowndes and Sam combined before the latter showed Barker a clean pair of heels, only to be brought down from behind by the Rotherham defender. Barker was a little fortunate to be shown a yellow card, when many in the ground thought it may have been a red, and Sam had to be taken off on a stretcher, leaving Vale to battle on with ten men.
