Swans striker Jason Scotland was tonight crowned the Powerade League One Player of the Month for December.

Scotland scored five goals throughout December despite missing the League game against Southend through injury.

The Trinidad & Tobago hit-man struck twice against Northampton, plus one each against Horsham (FA Cup), Cheltenham and that special winner against Leeds United.

"It's a big award for me when you consider the quality of the strikers in League One,'' explained Scotland.

"I'm lucky to be playing in a good team and I've got to give credit to my team-mates for the service they have given me.

"It's always nice to get recognition, but our job won't be done until we get promotion. Then we'll all be happy.

"To be honest I don't think I have had my best month, but I'm enjoying my football and scoring goals.

"This is my first season here, but I am starting to get to know the league. The football is different here, but I'm becoming more comfortable and it's starting to bring the best out of me.''

Chris Kamara, chairman of the Powerade Player of the Month Awards panel, said: "I know a few clubs looked at signing Jason Scotland while he was still at St Johnstone last season.

"Roberto Martinez took a chance and brought him to Swansea last summer and that decision has paid dividends in recent weeks.

"Jason is a strong, quick centre forward with a real eye for goal and is one of the main reasons why the Swans are currently setting the pace in League 1."

Also short-listed for the December award were Adam Lockwood of Doncaster Rovers, Andy Booth of Huddersfield and Walsall's Tommy Mooney.

It completes an unique double for the Swans after Roberto picked up the Coca-Cola League One Manager of the Month award for December.
