National midfielder Silvio Spann is expected to fly out this week to join Japanese First Division club Yokohama FC after signing a three-year contract last week.
Spann, currently attached to Vibe CT 105 W Connection after a deal with Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb fell through, will join the club for preseason training and is facing the possibility of missing this countrys February 9 World Cup qualifier against the United States.
Of course, this depends on the composition of the squad for that game and whether coach Bertille St Clair will demand the services of the former St Benedicts College captain.
Spann was not in the side which beat St Vincent and the Grenadines 3-1 on Sunday having just come off the flu virus but he was wished well by his fellow teammates inside the dressing room following the match. Now hes expected to force his way into the Yokohama squad.
Its a challenge for me because I am hoping I can go there and establish myself in the team, Spann said.
I must thank God for looking over me and allowing me the chance to get through with this contract and I also appreciate the support of my current club, teammates and coaches as well as my family members and other friends. They have all played an important role in my career so far and I would also like to say to the guys on the national team that they must go out there and give it their best shot, Spann added.
