Jake Thomson

Jake Thomson is eager to get started after the former Southampton winger secured a move to Exeter City.

Skysports.com revealed earlier on Thursday that the Grecians had lined up a deal for Thomson following his departure from Southampton.

The 21-year-old Trinidad and Tobago international joins Artur Krysiak and Billy Jones in making the move to St James Park and is delighted to have the opportunity to play for Paul Tisdale's side.

"My agent called me over the summer and asked if I wanted to come down here and meet the manager," Thomson told the club's official website.

"And after speaking to him for an hour or so I knew I wanted to come and join the club.

"He impressed me straight away and I told my agent to sort it out and get me here as quick as he could.

"I can't wait to start playing. It has been about six months since I played my last game so I just want to get on the field with the ball at my feet again. It cannot come quick enough."

Speed-merchant Jake Thomson signed a contract with the club this afternoon and just minutes later he spoke to the Official Website about the transfer, Paul Tisdale and much more.

Jake On The Transfer:

"My agent called me over the summer and asked if I wanted to come down here and meet the manager.

"And after speaking to him for an hour or so I knew I wanted to come and join the club and I'm very happy to be here.

"I was at Torquay for a good while and played in 15/16 games and I enjoyed it. I like the area so I was very happy to come down.

"I can't see anything that would suggest I've made the wrong choice in joining."

Jake On Paul Tisdale:

"I was impressed by the way he runs the club, how he is and how much of a fanbase there is here.

"It just impressed me straight away and I told my agent to sort it out and get me here as quick as he could.

"What the manager was saying fitted into what I was looking for.

"He has got a reputation of brining youngsters through, getting them back playing again which is the kind of manager that would be perfect for me."

Jake On His Playing Style:

"I'm direct, I'm quite quick, I can cross a ball and I can create quite a lot of opportunities for other people."

Jake On Pre-Season:

"I can't wait to start playing.

"It has been about six months since I played my last game so I just want to get on the field with the ball at my feet again. It can't come quick enough for me."

Jake On Meeting His Colleagues:

"I met a couple of the players milling around the training ground today, getting their early fitness in I suppose. But the large majority I'll meet on Monday.

"I think it will be quite nerve-wracking meeting new people for the first time but I've been told by everyone that they are a nice bunch of lads and easy to get on with so I'm looking forward to that."

Boss' patience pays off as Thomson signs with City.

Paul Tisdale's two-year pursuit of Jake Thomson has finally paid off after the youngster signed a one-year deal with Exeter City.

The former Southampton winger becomes the Grecians' third summer signing following the captures of defender Billy Jones and keeper Artur Krysiak.

And the 21-year-old said: "I am really pleased to have signed for Exeter. It is great that it is all done and dusted now.

"I have been down to Exeter a few times and I knew what the ground was like and the fans as well.

"My agent told me that the manager has been following me for a couple of years and that we should get together and have a chat.

"We spoke for about an hour-and-a-half and I was pretty dead set that I wanted to come down and join."

Thomson has been brought in to address the club's chronic lack of width last season.

And the confident wide-man gave City fans an insight into what he will bring to the side when the new season gets underway on August 7.

"I'm direct, I'm quite quick, I can cross a ball and I can create quite a lot of opportunities for other people," he said.

"I am never going to shy away from running at someone, even if I am tackled once or twice.

"I know I am more than likely going to get past them on the next occasion and I trust my ability to get good crosses into the box.

"I can't wait to start playing and it can't come quick enough for me."

Saints academy graduate Thomson is a former England under-17 international who, through his father's origins, has now opted to play for Trinidad & Tobago.

He has already appeared for them in the under-20 World Cup and was called up to the senior squad for the Soca Warriors' last two World Cup 2010 qualifiers against Costa Rica and Mexico.

Thomson, who's a contemporary of ex-Saints starlets Theo Walcott (Arsenal) and Gareth Bale (Spurs), has made seven starts and nine substitute appearances for League One side Southampton.

He made his Saints debut in August 2008 against Cardiff City but he found first team appearances hard to come by and went out on loan to Bournemouth at the beginning of 2009.

Last season the Portsmouth-born wideman joined Torquay initially on a one-month loan, which was extended until the end of the campaign. He made 15 appearances for the Gulls and scored one goal in the process.

"I enjoyed my time at Torquay but this is a fresh challenge for me and I can't wait," he added.
