Red card Canada
As the half continued, both sides got to the edge of the box, but never sustained any real danger. In the 27th minute, Kennedy Owusu-Ansah had a good run down the right side to create a corner kick. In the 29th minute, Mexico had a promising free kick from five yards outside the box, but Canada's wall stood tall for the shot.
In the 33th minute, Owusu-Ansah forced another corner kick on the right side. In the 38th minute, Mexico's Arnhold Rivas placed a good low shot that was of no trouble to goalkeeper Adam Street.
In the 43rd minute, Edwini-Bonsu was given the space to run the ball down the left side. He couldn't get the angle to break in, though, so his shot stayed wide and off the target. As such, the first half ended scoreless.
Before the second half, coach Fonseca brought in Kyle Porter in place of Owusu-Ansah. Just a few minutes from whistle, Canada then had its first chance on a corner kick. Straith's header, however, went high.
Then in the 52nd minute, trouble struck as captain Nana Attakora-Gyan went down with an injury as was unable to continue. A few minutes later, Mexico was able to dribble in for a shot and Paris Nakajima-Farran fell to the ground. Canada played the ball out, but Mexico threw it back in before Nakajima-Farran could get up. An ensuing pushing match in the box led to a Shaun Saiko ejection.
Canada actually played two men down for several minutes as Saiko was gone and Attakora-Gyan was yet to be replaced. Finally in the 58th minute, Ethan Gage came on for the injured Attakora-Gyan.
