Alexandria.
Alexandria is the second-largest city in Egypt. Known far and wide as ‘The Pearl of the Mediterranean', it has an atmosphere that is decidedly more Mediterranean than Middle Eastern. Its ambience and cultural heritage distance it from the rest of the country, although it is actually only 225km from the capital.
Borg El Arab Stadium.
Borg El Arab Stadium is a brand new stadium commissioned in 2006 in the Mediterranean Sea resort of Borg el Arab; 50 km west of Alexandria, Egypt. It is the second largest stadium in Egypt, Africa and The Middle Eastcomes after Cairo Stadium with a capacity of 80,000 and is an all-seater. It is located on the Cairo-Alexandria desert highway 10 km from Borg El Arab Airport and 15 km from Alexandria's city centre. A running track runs around the pitch, and the ground has four large floodlights. Only one stand is covered by a roof.
Trinidad & Tobago
T&T put in a promising performance as hosts of the 2009 CONCACAF U-20 Championship, ensuring a fourth-place finish to book their place in Egypt. The 2009 youth finals will the dual-island nation's second appearance at a U-20 global showpiece and judging by the steady improvements in their football, the opposition will do well not to underestimate the red-clad islanders.
Qualifying
Trinidad hosted the 2009 CONCACAF championship in Macoya and Bacolet over nine days in March. They began their campaign amid raucous local support with a 1-0 win over Canada and then followed it up with a 0-0 draw against eventual champions Costa Rica. Their third group game was a bit of anti-climax, as they had assured progress to the semis and Egypt beforehand. However, they still managed to come from two goals down to draw Mexico 2-2. In their last-four meeting with the much-fancied United States, the tournament hosts ground out a goalless draw before being edged in a penalty shoot-out. They had to endure further heartbreak in the third-place game when a late Honduras goal forced the home boys to settle for fourth.
Coach
Zoran Vranes brings a wealth of coaching experience to this young Trinidadian outfit. The Serbian former FK Partizan player managed the Trinidad and Tobago senior national team briefly in 2003 before helping to transform the fortunes of St Vincent and the Grenadines from minnows in the Caribbean to genuine contenders.
Star Players
Trinidad has among their ranks a raft of talented players, all good with the ball and possessing the prototypical Caribbean traits of explosive speed and power. Chief among them is Sean de Silva, who scored the crucial goal in Trinidad's opening win over Canada. Jet-heeled striker Qian Grosvenor, Daniel Joseph and namesake Marcus Joseph comprise a midfield that may well be able to make a mark in the Egyptian finals.
Record
Trinidad have only ever qualified for one FIFA U-20 World Cup, at Portugal 1991, where they were sent packing in the first round without managing to score a single goal.
What they said...
"It was very good to see that Trinidad and Tobago can play well under mental pressure and not just physical pressure. I am very proud of the guys...And I would like to thank all of Trinidad and Tobago who supported us," Trinidad and Tobago coach Zoran Vranes, after his side qualified for Egypt 2009.

Egypt
Egypt have a convincing record at the FIFA U-20 World Cup, standing in 22nd position in the competition's all time ranking out of 80 teams who have ever made it to the finals. The North Africans have made five appearances in the competition, starting with Australia in 1981 when Taher Abuzied finished as one of the top scorers of the tournament with four goals in just three matches. But their most impressive result was achieved 20 years later when they won the bronze medal in Argentina in 2001. The tournament which they host in September and October will provide the young Pharaohs with a chance to compete for the title for the first time in front of their own fans.
Qualifying
Although Egypt qualified automatically for the finals as hosts of the competition, the Egyptian FA insisted that their team should participate in the African Youth Championship that was held this year in Rwanda. They saw it as the perfect opportunity to test their youth side's ability to compete in such competitive circumstances. They started off on the wrong foot by losing to Nigeria 2-0, but soon recovered to beat Côte d'Ivoire and South Africa respectively in their group. However, this was not enough to send them through to the final four, losing out on a place in the semi-finals on goal difference to South Africa. The result was disappointing for the Egyptians and has raised doubts over the young side's ability to fulfil their nation's hopes of winning a medal later this year in the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Coach
Miroslav Soukup started his career in coaching at Czech side Tatran Prachatice, with whom he won a third-division title in 2002/03, and his success there led to two seasons as assistant coach for top-flight Czech outfit 1.FC Brno. Soukup guided his country, the Czech Republic, to the final of the FIFA U-20 World Cup Canada 2007 but they lost the title to Argentina. He was scouted by the Egyptian officials at that time who were hunting for a European professional manager who could help their team to reach the final of the same competition two years later. After a few months in charge, he decided to let go of his previous local assistant Rabie Yassin who was credited for formatting the current team and replaced him with former Werder Bremen defender Hany Ramzy.
Star Players
Goalkeeper Abugabal gave an impressive performance in Rwanda and proved to be the right man to succeed veteran keeper, Essam El Hadary in the Pharaohs' squad. However, arguably the side's brightest prospect is 19 year-old Talaat Mohamed, who has shown immense promise with his stellar performances.
Record
In the 21 games played in the competition they have won seven, drawn four and lost ten. Interestingly, they have scored 25 goals and conceded 31. Egypt's best finish in the competition came at Argentina 2001, when they finished third. Notable members of that side included Mohamed Shawky who currently plays for Middlesbrough in England, former Spurs midfielder Hossam Ghaly and Ahmed Aboumessalem who is currently based in France with League 2 side Ajaccio.
What they said
"We learned a lot of lessons in Rwanda and hope we can fix our mistakes before the FIFA U-20 World Cup. With the tournament taking place in September and October, we hope we would have enough time to bring new players to the side and give them the experience they lack especially that none of them have broken into the senior teams of their clubs." Miroslav Soukup, Egypt coach.

Pharaohs count on home support
(FIFA.com)
Egypt have left no stone unturned in their quest to do themselves proud at the FIFA U-20 World Cup, which they will host from 24 September to 16 October. They have faced over 80 different opponents in friendlies and installed Miroslav Soukup, who masterminded Czech Republic's improbable runners-up finish at Canada 2007, in their hot-seat, marking the first time a foreigner has coached them at youth level.
Hany Ramzi, a formidable sweeper who won 124 caps for Egypt, has been appointed as the Czech's right-hand man, and together the coaches have had their players together for six over months, affording them the chance to gel.
The Egyptians traveled to Rwanda for the CAF African Youth Championship at the start of the year, and although they impressed in respective 2-1 wins over Côte d'Ivoire and South Africa, a defeat by Nigeria in their opener ultimately cost them a place in the next round. Ramzi nevertheless believes they have come on leaps and bounds thereafter.
"Of course we didn't show the necessary level in Rwanda and we weren't happy with our performance, but we have improved greatly since then," he told FIFA.com. "The players have got more confidence and experience, and I believe that as a team we are a lot better than we were at the start of the year."
While Egypt will enter the world U-20 finals as one of the best-prepared sides, they have one of the only squads devoid of Europe-Based players. This, however, does not concern Soukup "I'm very content with the group I have now and I'm convinced they're the best," he said.
"We called up several professionals from Italy, Austria, Denmark and other countries who joined the team so we could judge their level, but they were no better than the local players. We mustn't forget that the national team have succeeded in winning the African Cup of Nations twice with local players. I'm happy that most of the squad are local but remain convinced that the Egyptian player has what it takes to succeed in Europe."
Soukup's men are now fully focused on their opening game against Trinidad and Tobago. They may take inspiration from their predecessors from 18 years ago, who ran out 6-0 winners against the Caribbean side at the FIFA World Youth Championship Portugal 1991.
What Ramzi fears the most ahead of the curtain-raiser, which will be held in the Borg el Arab stadium on the northern coast, is pressure from an expectant crowd. The venue has the largest capacity in Egypt, holding almost 80,000 spectators, and this will be the first official match held there since it was opened almost a year ago.
"Our players are looking forward to the crowd's support and we hope to see this massive ground full to the rafters, but at the same time we worry that the pressure of the occasion might effect the players or cause them to lose focus," said Ramzi. "We've played a record number of friendly matches, but the largest crowd has been about 300 people."
"Certainly the situation will be very different in this tournament and it's an experience our players have not encountered during their careers, but we've done our best to prepare them psychologically and make them ready for this. I believe that the spotlight on them in the first game will help them come through a difficult start.
"The home support and the knowing the grounds are important weapons that we must get the maximum benefit from, just as the crowd was the driving force behind the senior team's victory in the 2006 African Nations Cup."

All you notice is two red, white and black teams go be playing next week.

Egypt - Trinidad & Tobago preview: Let the dream begin!!
By Tamim (egypt.worldcupblog.org)
After long anticipation, our boys will kick off the U-20 world cup matches against Trinidad & Tobago this Thursday at the giant Burg Al Arab stadium, the largest in Africa, in Alexandria next Thursday hoping for the 3 points to give the whole tournament a boost and win fans support when they come here to Cairo in their upcoming games.
A win would set the scene for the tournament and encourage fans to attend other matches, give a boost to the organizers, increase media attention; I can say that the three points would have a magical effect.
Football wise, the game against the Soca Warriors is theoretically the easiest in the group stage compared to Italy and Paraguay and a victory here and another against either Paraguay or Italy would put us in the next round and then things would take another twist as the whole of Egypt will be rallied behind these young men trying to make history for themselves.
Getting ready for the big event, beautiful Alexandria has announced the highest emergency levels as Egypt’s second largest city tries to gather 80 thousand fans in the stadium that day and manage all logistic and organizational issues required which is quiet a challenge (although it has a population of 4 million people, the biggest crowd it had for a football match is 20 thousand), making the challenge bigger is that the stadium is more than 20 Km outside the city.
However, I guess fans will be descending on the stadium in its first official match from all over Egypt especially that it is a holiday season and it is going to be a day to remember.
Now, on to the game
Trinidad & Tobago
To be honest, my knowledge of football in the Caribbean country doesn’t exceed former Manchester United player Dwight York and their participation in world cup 2006 after beating Bahrain in the qualifiers.
After some research, I found out the following
-Their only previous participation at a FIFA U-20 World Cup was in 1991 when Trinidad & Tobago lost all three group matches without scoring a single goal (2-0 v. Australia, 6-0 v. Egypt, 4-0 v. USSR)
• Trinidad and Tobago was the first Caribbean national team to qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
• Trinidad’s U-20 coach, Serb Zoran Vranes, lead the St.Vincent/Grenadines national team during the FIFAWorld Cup 2006 preliminary competition.
• Trinidad and Tobago has not yet won a match in a FIFA final competition. In 12 games (six in U-17, three in the World Cup and three in the U-20 World Cup) they achieved only one draw (0-0) with Sweden in Dusseldorf during the last FIFA World Cup in 2006.
• At the CONCACAF U-20 championship in 2009, Trinidad and Tobago finished fourth after losing the semi-final against the USA on penalties and the third place match against Honduras.
So we beat them before in the same tournament 6-0 but I guess they have developed a lot since then and will be a much tougher opponent this time.
Generally, like most Caribbean teams, they are characterized with high stamina, speed and a bit of talent so adapting to their physical style will be the key to victory in this game.

Egypt
We have been getting ready for this since last January, playing more than 40 games, so I guess we will have the chemistry needed to emerge victorious from the opening game.
My concern is that all the 40 games they played were uncovered by the media and unattended by the fans but this time there will be 80 thousand fans and hundreds of reporters which is going to be kind of a shock for the inexperienced players, I am afraid they won’t be able to cope with; especially if the goals come late.
But fortunately and for the first time in the history of Egyptian football there is a psychiatrist accompanying the team and has been preparing the players for such a situation; I strongly hope that we can such a person in the senior team as we have all seen that our problems are psychological in the first place.
Tactical wise, Miroslav Sokoup, team manager, plays with 4-4-2 formation and has a wide variety of players to choose from; however, players like Mohamed Talaat, Mohamed Abu Gabal (goalkeeper), Ahmed Fathi (Boogy), Islam Shokry appears to be essential for the team.
Formation: we will discover!!
The match
The fans will constitute a pressure on both sides, so the first team to score is going to release all the pressure away from them and put it on the opponent so I hope for an early goal that would make our mission a lot easier.
Also, it is going to be pretty much physical so we have to be up to it.
Prediction: 2-0 for Egypt
Streaming: before the game (if anyone has one, please post it)

FIFA U-20 World Cup: the experts weigh in
cbc.ca
Was it really only two short years ago that the eyes of the soccer world were on Canada when it hosted the FIFA U-20 World Cup?
Time flies when you're having fun, because the biennial event is back, with the tournament kicking off this week in Egypt.
With that in mind, CBC Sports soccer commentators Nigel Reed and Jason de Vos peer into their respective crystal balls and offer their analysis and predictions.
GROUP A: Egypt, Italy, Paraguay, Trinidad and Tobago
Nigel Reed: As Canada discovered to its embarrassment two years ago, hosting this tournament does not always translate into home advantage. Egypt faces a tough task to satisfy local expectations and needs to win the tournament opener against Trinidad and Tobago to have a realistic chance of progressing to the second round.
Italy and Paraguay appear to be the teams to beat in Group A. The Italians lost in the finals of the European qualifying tournament, while Paraguay beat powerhouse Brazil en route to clinching the runners-up spot in South America.
It has been 18 years since Trinidad and Tobago last qualified for this tournament. In 1991, they left Portugal without scoring a single goal. Expect another early flight back to the Caribbean.
Prediction: 1) Paraguay 2) Italy 3) Egypt 4) Trinidad and Tobago
Jason de Vos: Being the home team, Egypt has a distinct advantage going into the competition. They also have the luxury of opening their campaign against the weakest of the three teams in their group, Trinidad and Tobago.
Trinidad and Tobago finished fourth in CONCACAF as the host nation for that region's qualifiers, and they will be keen to cause a few upsets in Egypt. Expect them to be quick and athletic, but the group of underdogs will have a difficult time on their hands advancing past the likes of Paraguay and Italy.
Paraguay finished runners-up to Brazil, beating the champions in their final qualifying game to clinch a World Cup berth. They are capable of going far in this tournament, as they have numerous players who can find the back of the net. Hernan Perez and Robin Ramirez notched five goals apiece in qualifying, while Federico Santander chipped in with four. If they can rise to the occasion, they could very well finish first in Group A.
To do so, they will have to overcome Italy, a team with a modest record at this age level. Don't be deceived by that though, as Italy will still be a team to watch in Egypt.
The Italians had an unblemished qualifying campaign before losing in the final to Germany 3-1, and came through some difficult groups to get there, overcoming the likes of Croatia and France along the way. Expect to see the traditional catenaccio from the Italians - a well-drilled defensive mindset with the ability to transition quickly onto the offensive foot.
Prediction: 1) Paraguay 2) Italy 3) Egypt 4) Trinidad and Tobago

Hey everyone I was reading this article and the author say that the Egypt Under-20 has played 80 warmup games in preparation for this tournament. They played more warm up games than our Senior World Cup Qualifying squad.......

But they are hosts so didn't have to qualify. It is expected they would play more warm-up games than anyone else as for two years they have had no choice but to play loads of friendly games to help prepare themselves.
-
They also played in the qualifying tornament games just as friendlies and would not have qualified. They placed forth. Their poiints did not count though.

Yes they did take part in the qualifying, but their points did not count and they placed 4th. I n addition they played 80 games...this is what amazes me.

I wouldn't be. Having experienced Egyptian Supporters...all I will say is; they had to play as many games as possible to gel and fine tune the squad cause if them mess up at home....well. I'm sure the home fans expect a quaterfinal place at the very least.

imagine that..all dem warm up games and they'll still be cold against the young warriors!

Of all those matches we only won against the Venezuelan B team, UAE and a couple of the club teams...and we tied Nigeria. What JA U-20 warm-up schedule looked like?

By the way, I think its totally BS that the tournament will be shown primarily on ESPN360 here in the US (except for the US games). You have to subscribe to one of select cable provider in order to be able to view espn360...so if anyone have free links, share.

I hearing all the talk about the best prepared team all the time. Probably because they went on the most training camps and played some high quality teams.
I for one ent buying that. Not because yuh play ah setta practice games that means yuh preparation is best.
When one looks at the win/loss ratio, I have to ask mihself what they was preparing for.
I not holding out for no big upset from this team nah. I supporting, and I really hoping they come good in the tournament and make me eat mih words, but my expectation is that it will be more of the same during this so called bess preparation.

By preparation we mean the core of this team has been kept together for year's progressing through the age groups, played in the local league as a club and had a considerable amount of practice games/Friendly internationals (in comparison to national teams of the past) in the run-up to this tournament. So in comparison to other local national sides they have been well prepared.
Now is a different story to say the preparation has been useful or successful. I doh think anyone saying that. From the results it dosen't look like we will do anything special, but we all know the difference between friendly and competitive games is significant. Still, we will soon find out how usefull it all was over the next few days.
-
Would have been nice if the T&T Government made arrangements to broadcast the games!

Yeah Rodney I got that what you're saying....I agree that all the opportunities and avenues were provided for this team...cyah fault that. My concern was that since they were U17s, them fellas only experiencing half pick ducks as far as their grooming and technical development is concerned. All the practice games will amount to nought, because them fellas will become very efficient at doing the wrong things. I don't know what different Corneal could bring to the team after getting so much licks from international teams since U15 times. What kinda track record Vranes have ?
I just think that the results are good indicators of this team's development. Based on the reports we getting, apprently the team performing better (arguably) due to the inclusion of the foreign based players and they seem to be showing more grit and fight in the games. Good as it maybe, that will only take you so far because all the other teams coming with grit and fight too, but they have more experience at top level football and a better technical game. So we have to up the ante if we really want to compete on the same level.
Just me thinking...wonder what woulda happen if we had cut down on half the overseas camps and use the money to pay bess coach for the WC ? :-\

If we are competitive in these 3 games.....and by competitive, I mean able to hold our own, not be overwhelmed, force the opposition to WORK HARD, and create several chances of our own....we will have made SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENT in this arena.
A draw will be bonus.
A win...THRILLING!
I happy to see SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENT. Hoping for the best for these guys because I know they've put in a lot of hard work. Would be nice to see their hard work rewarded in terms of a result....but more importantly for me....in terms of performance.
BEST OF LUCK YOUNG WARRIORS!

Egypt prepare to kick off
By Matthew Kenyon (BBC Sport, Cairo)
Egypt's Young Pharaohs hope to launch the Under-20 World Cup in style on Thursday evening.
They kick-off the tournament against Trinidad and Tobago in front of Egyptian President in Alexandria.
The young Pharaohs need to win to have a realistic chance of making the knock-out stages.
After that they have the more experienced Paraguay and Italy to deal with.
Few of this crop of Egyptian youngsters get regular first team football for their clubs.
Mohamed Talaat of Al Ahly is considered one of their brightest hopes, but he played only two games for the Cairo giants last season.
But their Czech coach Miroslav Soukup has experience at this level.
He guided his home country to second place two years ago, and that could prove crucial to Egypt's chances of success on the pitch.
Trinidad and Tobago went to the World Cup in Germany three years ago.
Their youth side finished fourth in the CONCACAF qualifying tournament, which they hosted.
But Egypt are favourites to win but that will depend on how they handle the pressure of playing at home.
A sell-out crowd of 80 thousand is expected to attend the openning game.
The other game in group A on Friday and features a Italy and Paraguay at the Cairo International Stadium.
-
well with all said...i wanted to see them play the three games and give my own account...cause last night while watching captain Paul on youtube...captain Paul was saying some of the guy's were nervous...well i hope they know this aint know time to be nervous...Egypt is coming out of the gate blazing they are a very fast team went they play.... the T&T U20 still taking awhile to settled so i hope the coaching staff keep that in mind and the team leave the gate blazing as well and put away the chanced they get...but my worry is DEFEND...iam looking for a shutout...in all three game from the DEFEND

Should we play a defensive system and use just the 1 striker, YES!!!
Egypt playing at home in front of 80,000 will be more than pump-up for this game, also Egypt football has been making huge improvement.
We definitely need to play a defensive system from the back, 4-5-1 or 5-4-1 or 3-2-4-1 and also try to control the possession game.

Watch T&T score first and put dem under real stress ;D

enjoy the moment.

we should just stick to our regular 3-5-2 .......or 5-3-2 when defending no changes that would be madness

yuh know we funny. when berty tried that formation with the 1991 team up to yesterday man was saying he was ah dunce coach and what de hell he was doing. if you check he was probably one of the first coaches to try that system. unfortunately the players he had at the time wasnt able to effectively play the system like how teams play it now. but i like your idea of playing conservative....not defensive though. there is a big difference. :beermug:

Can't see it posted so just to inform the UK based Trini's. The game is supposed to be shown on British Eurosport (The main channel not Eurosport 2) coverage starting from 6:40pm (Game kicks off 7pm UK). Infact throughout today they been showing 15 min previews about the tournament. I'll be at ah damn meeting then so no hope fuh me.
If u got Sky or Cable you will know yuh good to go, if yuh only got freeview, yuh might get it through Topup TV if yuh have that service or try the red button fuh BBC as they have showed games from all the recent FIFA tournaments without ever really advertising the fact (probably only show England though). If "heavens forbid" yuh just have Terrestrial :o well, the internet links here will have to do as we can't view it through FIFA's site.

they did thier homework, i hope we did ours
"Talaat, however, is not getting carried away by the media frenzy and remains focused on the task in hand: "We know taking three points from our first game is key, but I'm also confident we'll play to win in all our games," he said. "The only match we're thinking about at the moment is the one against Trinidad and Tobago - a very fit and skilful side. There'll be a big crowd there, looking for us to show our potential and we need to perform well to make sure they keep turning out to support us."
"We've watched recordings of a number of their friendlies and they're in excellent shape physically. That said, we've identified some areas where hopefully we can exploit them and, personally, I'm hoping to get on the scoresheet," he added. "

They just buss Adams mouth...
we go bleed fuss but we winnin this war.
-
We settling a lil bit more now
-
We lack a bit of quality no doubt, and our ball handling is a bit rash... but as a unit so far this team seems to be fairly compact and organized- not a common sight for T&T teams, especially at the youth level...If we can stay organized when the legs get a bit tired, we can stay in this one and play for a result.
-
likin what ah seein
-
hyland trying that rusty spanner again?
-
oh gawd, take yuh beat nuh pharaoh...

They just buss Adams mouth...

That's the little difference in individual quality that makes the big difference in the end...
Tough luck guys...keep your heads up- plenty football to play- settle down and get back into the game.
-
Dem egyptioons have 2 yellow cards already?
I looking at de commentary on my mobile.

U 20 eh senior level bro.
Nkosi Blackman. First ever goalscorer for T&T in a FIFA World Cup at any age level.
-
Not a bad half at all... we're playing well in spurts. We're losing our shape from time to time.
Samuel having a strong game in goal.
Thompson having a strong game on the right so far...can't afford to lose him.
Rochford and the skipper battling hard in the middle but we need more of a creative force....
Adams looks good down the left but he's a bit too hasty.
Gay & Hyland are chasing too many loose balls...I don't think either has collected the ball at their feet, much less facing the opposing goal...
Da Silva has not had a good start to the tournament so far... Nervous, a bit weak, and definitely too slow....
Primus is a good player but he and the other soldier in the hole are getting caught flat sometimes
1-1 against the host nation at the half is alot to be proud of so far though....
-
Whew. We lucky to be 1-1. But I like the fight. They still need to control a little more.

Sh1t. My memory real bad
-
That's why I said Sean should be playing where Hyland is... Hyland is big strong and good on the ball and him in midfield will be better than Sean in CM... I rather Sean in a CAM role behind Gay
Cyrus is poor..he is letting us down.. I would rather C.Gonsalves who did brilliant in the WCQ's in the sweeper role
-
we have to try to knock the ball out the back a lil more...is only hoof i seeing
Thanks, ah thought was just me seeing this. We lack composure man.
-
Good going... Egypt will adjust, but we have to adjust too... and take control of the midfield.....we found our new rightback for the next 10 years. the midfield eh do nuthin.... Gay suffering for ball
-

I was thinking the same thing. He needs to workout in the gym and he'll be a beast on the pitch. He is skillfull though.
-
De Silva realisin he eh in Intercol again.
Also, is it jus me, or do we have 2 'keepers on d bench?
-

SM send Sean ah text tell him to step up he game....
-
Come on fellas, keep the shape in the 2nd half, we have to be very disciplined. No doubt Egypt gonna come out hard in the 2nd, our defensive organisation is gonna be essential if we want a result in this one....good job fellas
-
I've done a quick scan of the thread and it seems as though the general consensus is that Da Silva is weak....I have to agree. He is looking very ordinary....
Also, Egypt is going to score at least another goal in this game.....

BRING ON MOLINO FOR SEAN NOW !!!!
-
The team looks like they lost their shape on several occasions, especially in Midfield.
Lots of very direct balls up front, to nobody, gay has to hope for a stray knockdown.
The number 5 looks lost on the left and is forcing Desilva to defend against two.
Paul cannot find any space, none factor for 45min.
DeSilva needs to settle, he is finding space, getting the ball, but playing too slow.
Positive goalkeeping, Thompson and Primus look like the real deal (thank heavens)
Egypt are beatable and look vulnerable when players run at them.
-
Is it me or are there WAGONIST on this forum hmm lol trinis yes ...............
Yeah you ;D ;D ;D ;D
10 post. Look ah bet you does only come online when we have ah game ;D

Completely agree small mag, DeSilva is an attacker and damn good playmaker perfect to sit behind Gay. Hence no balls getting to Gay. Watch men call the youth a shitong now :-\
Jake T is a Godsend, can see now why he score a brace on Italy in U17. Latas Cap that youth one time!

-
what the f**k! what going on with them ....they lost or what
-
This is bullshit now! Too much space being allowed, especially near the top of the box. Midfield too withdrawn. Vranes facking countering strategy is clearly NOT working.
Keep your head up and take one back boys!
-
gr8 keeper but he really at fault 4 d last 2 goals. he can only get better.

-
Dem making this long haired bullerman look like a star boy
long haired bullerman-lol
-
Keep the fight fellas
1 goal and we back in the game
-
I hadda give these men a break:
1. Some a them eh as strong, quick or skillful as some of their Egyptian counterparts.
2. They playin against a superior conditioned team.
3. They playin at their home stadium in the tournament opener.
Nerves hadda be a factor for some of these youths - not to mention ppl always believe T&T teams are better than they actually are.
-
we looking good right about now... look like hyland gone back in midfield
-
Corneal blight this team
-
2 good saves by Egypt's keeper...we coulda been back in this one.
-
Here comes the time-wasting - almost obligatory.

-
I hope Carlos Edwards watching. Jake Thompson putting on a clinic on how to serve the ball...
hard luck on the yellow card for Jake.
-
I hope Carlos Edwards watching. Jake Thompson putting on a clinic on how to serve the ball...
couldn't resist dissing we best player eh i know it was comming soon times...

thomson actually got ball with the trailing leg...
he crosses are all fairly dangerous...
-
I hope Carlos Edwards watching. Jake Thompson putting on a clinic on how to serve the ball...
COSIGNNNNN.....I was saying de same thing....that Carlos better watch out.....ah like him as a player yes....but this Thompson boy looking like the real McCoy...
-
thomson actually got ball with the trailing leg...
he crosses are all fairly dangerous...
yeah... the egyptian cut it back just as he tackled- if he hadn't, that wouldve been all ball.
-
We need a star boy in ah hurry.
-
I hope Carlos Edwards watching. Jake Thompson putting on a clinic on how to serve the ball...
COSIGNNNNN.....I was saying de same thing....that Carlos better watch out.....ah like him as a player yes....but this Thompson boy looking like the real McCoy...
he and jlloyd self with the crossing-- not to jump the gun, but who say carlos to CM or CAM?
-
We need a star boy in ah hurry.
ent somebody say Latas in egypt?
-
outside of leston paul i still think we not international level fit. i always watching wat happening off d ball and u realise men like they trying to save themselves and not tracking back holding back on runs etc. thats usually ah sign of not being fit and eyptians cramping cause they not leaving anything in the tank they going full throttle
-
one star eh needed..is a team of players that stop making basic mistakes and can actually control a ball well on first touch and make smart passes etc...
-
well if we eh score that we eh winning..steupse!
good thing was for this game we created chances...chances that should have been buried
-
oh gardooo post
-
Wow, could be back in dis but for the width of 2 posts yes. Hard luck dere Clarence.
-
woooiiii... juma almost answered d call for ah starboy dey
-
Damn that post!!!! ;D
-
we have to finish dem chances
-
no wonder we were struggling to score in the warm ups, its not skill its decision making. why would u go 1st post there clarence? why?
-
For the next game they may have to move Thomson to the midfield instead of Da Silva....
Although he marshalling dat right side yuh could see that he tends to drift towards the middle which may be his natural position..
-
that is about the third belt that egyptian left back get from thomson..
-
GEEEEEZAAAAAD! What ah miss!
-
nice lil belt from thompson dey....
...dese "injuries" from egypt getting outta hand.
-
them egyptians faking to kill time off the clock
-
Talaat sposed to be dey star, but he eh impress me much today na.
-
I hope Carlos Edwards watching.
I've been saying it. Carlos cah cross but he could real shoot, so put him where he could shoot.
Go TT!
-
Italy are notoriously slow starters so we go ketch them ;D
-
Thompson is the real deal. Clarence needs to be on the field. Hyland needs to pick up his game. Samuel is a good shot stopper but needs to work on crosses.
Overall, a good performance.
More heart and effort than the senior team
-
bar the WC game vs sweden dis is the bess i ever see one of our teams play against quality opposition. doh mind we down 2 but we have them under pressure. dem fellas done do we proud. the new birchall ..JT :beermug:
only thing JT is simular to in Birchall is both a them being English, but in terms of football Jake is gonna be miles better than him, and probably is already better. That boy is crossing the ball excellently.
I hope Latas cap him as soon as possible, cause when he see the shit that does be going on in T&T football, he might decide duck out from playing for the senior side and run back to England and fight it out to play for their senior team eventually- he definitely looks like he has the talent and skill to eventually get a chance there if he keeps developing. Thing is I want really want him to play for the senior side, but I know how much stress this is gonna cause the boy in his career at the same time- I almost feel bad for wanting Latas to tie him down lol.
-
Possibly the best last 3rd buildup of the game there.
-
could someone take a shot already dis kinna walk in de post football will not work
-
Yeah Thomson is really a midfielder who could play RB. Midfield is his natural position.
He cyah find he way at Southampton, though. But he young still.
-
could someone take a shot already dis kinna walk in de post football will not work
it was looking nice though ;D
de last man shoulda dish off to de free man on de right... sure goal
-
if this was Man U it wudda have 10mins injury time
-
I hope Carlos Edwards watching. Jake Thompson putting on a clinic on how to serve the ball...
couldn't resist dissing we best player eh i know it was comming soon times...
'
Call a spade a spade, Carlos' crossing not in this kid's class. His crosses are outstanding and consistent....Awesome player....
-
lets see how much time added...it should be at least 5 mins
Big Up!
-
damn...arafat deadly boy
-
dat unfair man
-
Na man, 4-1 is flattery to d extreme now.
Cah be givin man da much space to shoot doh - doin da whole game.
-
oh shit.... ah nex goal... but a garbage time goal indeed. :o
-
terrible defending there..man cudda pick his spot...well i out...the scoreline shud not have been this bad
-
Damn 4-1 is a harsh scoreline...
We were better than that today....
-
Jake should be our holding center mid!
-
I hope Carlos Edwards watching. Jake Thompson putting on a clinic on how to serve the ball...
couldn't resist dissing we best player eh i know it was comming soon times...
'
Call a spade a spade, Carlos' crossing not in this kid's class. His crosses are outstanding and consistent....Awesome player....
but apparently not fit, but then he is being asked to play rb yet still get down the flank and cross consistently and have to get back in defence only remember once that a midfielder slotted in 4 him when a play broke down
-
dey ent scout this arafat youth beofre hand?
-
Why they take of Rochford Files.
-
Allyuh come off Jake nuts nah, this is but one game!
-
terrible defending there..man cudda pick his spot...well i out...the scoreline shud not have been this bad
That's the problem for the whole match; terrible defending on our part.
-
4-1 is ah misleading scoreline. fuh me it was closer than that. good job youths. plenty improvements to make but good job. ah see real men for the 2014 campaign
-
Allyuh come off Jake nuts nah, this is but one game!
don't mind we... we just living in d moment, trying to find ah positive.
-
I remember when jamaica Tied Egypt o-o in a u20 WC and they (egyptians) went on to finish 3rd .
now you play egypt with lots of pressure on the host and get walk over . Jamaicans are superior ! :P
-
WE lost fullstop
samuel needs to work on how he handles cross balls as a long ball showed he has problems making up his mind as to when to leave his line.
didnt derseve that score line but we were not good enough to take our chances
-
terrible defending there..man cudda pick his spot...well i out...the scoreline shud not have been this bad
Look better than the senior team
-
I hope Carlos Edwards watching. Jake Thompson putting on a clinic on how to serve the ball...
couldn't resist dissing we best player eh i know it was comming soon times...
'
Call a spade a spade, Carlos' crossing not in this kid's class. His crosses are outstanding and consistent....Awesome player....
but apparently not fit, but then he is being asked to play rb yet still get down the flank and cross consistently and have to get back in defence only remember once that a midfielder slotted in 4 him when a play broke down
Correct. Is only is trini is ah man expected to sprint full speed up the flank and expected to get back immediately. The kid is in good shape,, not great shape but how many runs can a man make? I thought he was out best player tonight. Leston Paul fought hard got to give it to him, he has a captain's spirit and heart.
Last 20 minutes we finally was doing something.....Something to build on I guess. Hey, at least we found a player...
-
Round of applause for de fellas.... they show real grit and effort.... Italy next

???
Are all Jamaicans this retarded?
-
Allyuh come off Jake nuts nah, this is but one game!
Nobody on the man nuts but he was the best player for us tonight. His crosses were awesome and everytime he attacked he looked dangerous. Give credit where credit is due.
-
wait nah is 2 goals jake score.

Too bad you couldn't qualify to prove it.
-
Damn 4-1 is a harsh scoreline...
We were better than that today....
completely agree.

Yah eint remember when men use to bull yah for tokes ah they pipe.

One observation. From the 69 minute on we played differently much more cohesive and constructive. The coach made a very good decision to move Hyland back to the midfield and bring on Clarence who has some speed. Hyland did a much better job of settling the midfield. That's why coaches get paid to make tactical decisions. Even though we may not think much of the coach, that was a good tactical decision.

i agree with that, but yuh hear the old talk start now?
oh the man could teach carlos how to cross, and we need to shift Carlos somewhere else so he could play on the senior team etc.. yuh know man looking to run with that talk now..
come nuh man.. one game.

Clearly Thomson was the best player. And he isn't unfit. Nobody on our SENIOR team can cross as well as him.
-
Good games for Thomson and Primus and if Samuel didnt make that mistake he would be in my list..but he did make 2 brilliant saves
Poor game from De Silva, Cyrus, Gay
Hyland is too casual at times...wake up boy
When we played a 3-5-2 with Primus, Bateau Gonsalves together we didnt concede a goal
1-0 vs Canada 0-0's vs USA and CR
So yea..break it up when we reach the cup?
f**k boy
My side vs Italy
(I feel Rochford tourni done with the injury)
--------------------------------Samuel
-----------Primus--------------Gonsalves--------Bateau
--Thomson----------------------------------------------Adams
-------------------------------Hyland
------------------Molino--------------------L.Paul
----------------------------------De Silva

Boss, I never say tuh shift Carlos nowhere. All I say is the man could cross the ball much better and much more consistent than Carlos. I don't need to see more that one game to determine that.
Did I say he was a better player, No....I'm just merely stating the facts. But what I will say is he is a BETTER player than we current right back Spann, right now. I say cap the man and move on from there yes.
-
Jake Thompson could play for the snr team right now. I take back my words...that kid is we best player....
ah endorse that
-
Hyland is the future.....expect good things from him....very calm on the ball....

Boss, I really doh know but I have to trust that the coach making the decisions. I agree, I didn't really see anything special with Leston Paul but he showed a true captain's heart and spirit.
-
samuel had a good game. d defense left him too exposed at times. dem pharoahs had enough time to plan out dey plays.
-
That scoreline making it appear like a blowout.....steups!!!
:-\
-
Hard luck guys. IMO we lacked confidence more than we lacked quality.
Well 18 years later we reduced the goal difference to 3 :P
We have real work to do. 2014 will not be a cakewalk.
They really tried hard, but not much positives: The best thing about T&T today was Thompson, and he is not a product of our system.
Clearly this team alone is not our future. We need to qualify teams in the next 2 U20 WCs for the requisite experience and mix to get a good team in time for 2018.
-
That scoreline making it appear like a blowout.....steups!!!

But it was except for the last 20 minutes or so.....
-
terrible defending there..man cudda pick his spot...well i out...the scoreline shud not have been this bad
That's the problem for the whole match; terrible defending on our part.
I disagree. Our defenders, especially Primus, and goalkeeper were very good today. We lack a defensive presence in midfield. It is hard for defenders to defend when they have midfielders running at them and forwards running off the ball.
Paul ran a lot but didn't do anything with the ball.
I'm impressed by the performance. If these players learn how to be true pros, and get good coaching, they will get far!!!
-
what iam watching the senior team play...they play one half and lost the next...who train these young men....they don't have any fire in them...what the f**k....what going on with Trinidad and Tobago football ...it's like watching the senior team play...4.....and 91...from the same team 6....oh oh....i get it...how much friendly games they plays and...yea how much they win or drawn......DAMN WENT WILL TTFF, U20 COACHING STAFF, THE LOCAL IN TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO....f**kING LEARN....OR REALLY GET IT.....SAME SHIT DIFFERENT DAY

If Clarence dont start the next game the coach is an imp!
Oh and De Sliva should be water boy!

bredda, if you could determine that this kid can be a national team starter on the basis of one game at the Under 20 level, then more power to you..
but imo running against a seasoned and physical USA, Mexico and Costa Rica defence is a much different proposition to Egyptian Under 20 youths..
if the kid was really that good, he would be starting at right wing for his team at the championship level.. You know.. like what Carlos is doing right now.
-

Samuel has a lot of potential. (He made some spectacular saves)
It could have easily been 5 or 6.
Thomson is looking solid.
I hope Rochford plays next match.
Adams had some good touches.
Hyland not too many mistakes looks comfortable with the ball
Gay's judgement could improve a little
If Clarence had scored, I think the game would have ended 3-2.
Last, Egypts counter attack is fierce. I think two goals were scored off the counter.

I am the one who was making talk about moving Carlos. I stand behind that too, because if JT consistently plays the way he played today, and he could translate that talent to the senior level, then I would be happy to see Carlos playing effectively in the mid somewhere, instead of kicking every cross out of bounds, or over everyone's heads, or straight to the opposition, as he usually does (Tinto too). That alone would save us at least 5-6 possessions each game.
-
Your under-20 boyz looked compact. Whats the difference between this bunch of players and the senior squad? Simple...the chemistry is better. Hard to get a team of players together for six weeks at the senior level, especially when most of the senior guys ply their trade in foreign leagues. Even harder to get the quality prep games at senior level....Nigeria, USA, Brazil, etc.
3-2 or 2-1 would have been a much fairer result.
waiting to see waht Honduras, USA, Costa Rica will do in their games.

Saddest you must have a problem reading.....I never say the man could start, ah say he better than what we have at right back. The kid is quality. Look at his technical ability, his intelligence...come on man. Quality is quality.
Again, allyuh not reading. I never say the man better than Carlos. I said he crosses the ball better. Does that make him a better player, no........But be honest the kid's ability to serve the ball is better than any player on we snr team right now....of course, this is based on one game LOL.

So you see the man play one game and ready to banish him forever? Doh mind all the good games he had in the qualifiers and warm-up games, all the goals he scored, etc. This one game for you define him as the worst ting in a tugs
-
Depending on when this tournament finishes for us, I think we should include some of these players, Primus, Thompson, Clarence, Hyland in the senior team for the rest of the qualifiers.
We are already out and these guys can gain from the experience of senior international football.
On to 2014

Arimaman.....from the few times I've seen of De Silva.....he is lacking that something that makes him look like he belongs on a national team.....in other words, its not a matter of having a bad game today.....I think Touches has always made that observation about him....but since I've only seen him a few times, I'll leave it to the forumites who would have seen him play regularly to give a better or more fair assessment....

That's not true. Like ah man say, playing in CONCACAF is one thing, playing on the world stage is another. I guarantee every player and coach gave everything they had in training or otherwise. Therefore, to make that statement is unfair. We may not win, but I guarantee you the coaches and players want to win and did everything they could to be prepared....

Breds, did I say he is the worst thing in a tugs or he should be bannished from the team? I just think he should be water boy to show him that his pick not certain. Now Juma on ther hand just look like he belong on the starting 11.

The reason Gay lookin' like KJ is because our middle is not up to snuff. Mostly long ball up and down the sides.

i fully agree. the team looked better than most of the senior team WCQ games this campaign. our biggest problem, and its a major problem in our senior team, our midfield does not defend. especially in our middle, our central midfielders not tracking back and helping out on defense. if they close they going to pull jersey and ting but other than that they way out of position defensively. the reason why our RB looked good was because Jake was coming back more often than not. but overall i was not too dissapointed with the performance. we showed heart and fight and we looked at times like we werent afraid of the opposition. i think international experience got the better of us too. but overall not a bad effort.
BTW men need to give da silva a rest. yes he had a bad game today but doh forget he is a huge reason we here in the first place. ah see ah man talking about having him as waterboy and shit. thats dam foolishness. as SM, i think he and hyland was out of position to start. hopefully they will lift there efforts for the next game. i would also like to see clarence get a start...he looked good coming on. :beermug: :beermug:

If Clarence dont start the next game the coach is an imp!
Oh and De Sliva should be water boy!
Tough...not fair. He had a bad game but he's still young. Give the man a bligh nah....jeeze.....
Tough? Sport is dog eat dog and about winning. Until we adopt that mentality we will continue to be 'plucky losers'. He go get a bligh when he put in a better performance than today. I seriously thought he did not want to get his white strip dirty.
That is not a mentality it is reality. Players have bad games. Granted he pick the wrong time to do it but don't kill the poor kid. That is idiotic to kill a kid for having a bad game....It doh have nothing to do with dog eat dog....that's just bull sh*# man.
Arimaman.....from the few times I've seen of De Silva.....he is lacking that something that makes him look like he belongs on a national team.....in other words, its not a matter of having a bad game today.....I think Touches has always made that observation about him....but since I've only seen him a few times, I'll leave it to the forumites who would have seen him play regularly to give a better or more fair assessment....
speeed and he gets bumped of the ball to easy
-
I don't know man....ah hate Trinibago football style....and they not looking to change it.....this game give meh ah headache....f**k Trinidad and Tobago football SUCK.....we glad to qualify...but don't show up to play......
That's not true. Like ah man say, playing in CONCACAF is one thing, playing on the world stage is another. I guarantee every player and coach gave everything they had in training or otherwise. Therefore, to make that statement is unfair. We may not win, but I guarantee you the coaches and players want to win and did everything they could to be prepared....
wait wait... the players wanted...to win...but not playing or fighing the game to win...the coach's wanted to win ...but not coaching the team or training to perform to win...is that what you tell me..are you f**king NUT
-
We on Desilva case because he plays a crucial position on the field. He and Paul never fully control the middle. That's why they scored on us. I think he needs to go to the weight room.

So you see the man play one game and ready to banish him forever? Doh mind all the good games he had in the qualifiers and warm-up games, all the goals he scored, etc. This one game for you define him as the worst ting in a tugs
dis is d world cup, dis eh no sunday sweat. is only three games we set to play. no room for mistakes. yuh play shit in d world cup, yuh will get benched. plain an simple
lawd jesus!!! based on dem statements ah must have to wonder if some of alyuh ever play organised ball yes??? whey sah!!

I wouldn't resort to name calling as I am bigger than that. How do you know that they not training to win or not coaching to win? Maybe I'm mistaken but what did you see "coach"? How do you define not coaching to win? No sir, those kids fought extremely hard, I don't know what you were looking at. After we gave up the 3rd goal is really when we started gaining possession and playing better. That tells me the team is committed to winning. Can you be more specific in your assessment?

Ok so he picked a bad time to have a bad game. However, based on his past performances, it is logical to assume that it was just an anomaly, as he has regularly been a positive contributor in the games leading up to the tournament. Based on that reasoning it is premature to condemn him on this one poor performance. He not usually shitty like dat lol
-
Depending on when this tournament finishes for us, I think we should include some of these players, Primus, Thompson, Clarence, Hyland in the senior team for the rest of the qualifiers.
We are already out and these guys can gain from the experience of senior international football.
On to 2014
Ditto.....We need to include some of these players in the next 2 WC games. Cap Thompson now yes....
yuh talking BS... Capping JT now eh doing nothing fuh when he reach 21. De man could still change he mind.

Doh study them breds.
Plenty men like to sit on their armchair and bump their gums. I'm sure every player on this team tried their best, Da Silva included.
The better team won. That doesn't mean that we are horrible however. We played against a team on their home turf, in a country exponentially bigger than us. Independent observers, the commentator, commended us, and all we could do here is criticize??? ???
Do you guys have a realistic view of Trinidad football???

Breds, did I say he is the worst thing in a tugs or he should be bannished from the team? I just think he should be water boy to show him that his pick not certain. Now Juma on ther hand just look like he belong on the starting 11.
Well last time i checked, the water boy was not part of the team....so i think that qualifies as banishing him

vranes and corneal could do alot better, they are not up to par as coaches on an intl level, the mistakes the youths made tonight can be fixed by better coaches, when they added corneal to the staff it was all downhill, corneal is a shithound and cant coach, vranes being from serbia should have dem boys playing alot more fluid football in the middle, recovery was terrible when it should be up to par, once again, the ttff go for half decent coaches and shithound asst coach

Possible true but yuh have to have players to play a certain way. Who says we have players to do what the coach would really like to do. Me eh like Corneal as much as you but our quality of players is lacking guys....we are just not necessarily up to stuff on the WC level....

hoss it look like we need to start to groom some of the trini youths we does coach to play that defensive midfield position cause on this team and senior team we aint have a player.

I'm not talking BS bro. The essence of the statement was that we should give some of the younger guys some experience.
I'm sorry for personally offending you by mentioning Thompson.
Thanks for pointing the FIFA regs out though.

trust me breds, with an excellent strength and conditoning coach and a good technical staff which includes a better coach and asst coach to organize that defense and transition defense wth the mid, we will be playing alot better ball with this same team, this same team would have held egypt to a 1-1 draw but corneal and vranes are not good enough...
once again it doesnt matter how much intl matches they play, its all about the coaches and training staff... not up to par, we have the skill and raw talent and that needs to be harnessed...

Breds, anybody who ever get called a water boy never see the field. So come again....nobody does call a substitute (who actually gets some playing time) a water boy. At BEST it's a sub who has a permanent space on the bench.

I not disagreeing with you that those things need to be done but we really have limited resources. By the way, I disagree that the coaches don't know how to organize the defense. Vranes has his badges and knows the game. I think those statements are somewhat unfair....I think you are off base, great players make good coaches look great. Trust me lad, we don't have the players.

I think you have a point.
With better coaching and organization at all levels we will improve. You only have to look at the improvemnet of Japan and Korea as an example. The difference between them and us though is resources!!! As much as we may have some natural talent, as a country we have to put our money where our mouth is. The good news is, it can be done. We only have to look at the success of Jamaican Track Athletes as an example.

Good games for Thomson and Primus and if Samuel didnt make that mistake he would be in my list..but he did make 2 brilliant saves
Poor game from De Silva, Cyrus, Gay
Hyland is too casual at times...wake up boy
When we played a 3-5-2 with Primus, Bateau Gonsalves together we didnt concede a goal
1-0 vs Canada 0-0's vs USA and CR
So yea..break it up when we reach the cup?
f**k boy
My side vs Italy
(I feel Rochford tourni done with the injury)
--------------------------------Samuel
-----------Primus--------------Gonsalves--------Bateau
--Thomson----------------------------------------------Adams
-------------------------------Hyland
------------------Molino--------------------L.Paul
----------------------------------De Silva
--------------------------Juma
poor game from cyrus?? u serious he mad emistakes but he also put in vital last min tackles..none of his mistakes resulted in goals.
i agree with de silva who looked out paced all game. samuel needs to communicate better with hsi defence and be quicker off his line.
gay didnt have a poor game cause he didnt have much chance to really get somehting going. lone striker is a hard position most times..he could have shielded the ball better imo.
defence looked pretty good. desilva was the weak link they attacked down his side from early. next game they shold start with molino maybe.....
hyland is really to casual
thompson good game......score line didnt tell entire story though egypt did have most opportunities
both keeprs made really good saves

we have the resources, the govt doesnt want to invest neither our rich private sector, i think the only people who feel tt is a poor country is the ones who buying that garbage from the corrupt govts we have had. not saying you breds, but we have the resources and we have the talent, as far as i am concerned, vranes if he was a good coach he would be in serbia, truss me, i have frens who are serbian diehard football fans and they dont think much of him atall, corneal is a pretender who gets his work thru favours not by his vision and knowledge, nor coaching ability.
we have the players, we need a world class coach, asst coach, td and trainer, which we can get bc tt is the richest friggin nation in the caribbean, dont let any of them politicans lie and fool you, pulling wool over the people eyes is their specialty.

De Silva, Leston Paul and Hyland had bad games today.
They're the core of the midifeld. One could have a off day. Not 2 and certainly not 3.
Observations:
1 - Disappointing that we played so many "hoof it" balls. We play with ZERO composure in defence. Everytime is a "panic" clearance. Notable exception being Jake Thompson.
2 - I wasn't sure what position Akeem Adams was playing. Left wing back or Left midfield? It looked to me as if we had 3 centre backs in Cyrus, Primus, & Bentick. 2 wide men in Thompson and Adams, Hyland & Rochford interchanging wide, De Silva and Paul in the middle, and Gay up front. If Adams was playing left wing back, he was playing WAY too high and getting caught out regularly. The opposing right sided player frequently had oceans of space in which to operate.
3 - Samuel is a decent shot stopper. Very acrobatic. But doesn't inspire confidence on cross balls.
4 - Primus is definitely one for the future. I could see why Fenwick was so high on him. Once he learns to play with composure in the back, he will be VERY GOOD.
5 - Bentick is a solid presence in the back. Unspectacular but big and strong. Decent in the air and has a very strong left foot. Cyrus was ok.
6 - Nice to see natural left footers in the team....Bentick, Adams, Primus (I believe). Quite a few of the players were equally comfortable with the ball on the left AND right foot.
7 - Jake Thompson was very impressive. Best player on the pitch on either side for me althought de alforto fella (de fella who score egypt first goal) was also excellent.
8 - Gay didn't get much service so hard to rate him. Big, strong, but it looked like Juma Clarence created more problems for the defence when he came on. To be fair, he came on midway through the 2nd half so defenders already lil tired. He need to finish his chances. Tricky and speedy tho.
9 - I like Molino. The kind of player Trinbagonians love to see. He can cause problems just from skill.
10 - Too often during the game our shape was non existent. Defensive discipline includes the midfielders and somethng was way wrong today. I keep coming back to our lack of composure but we really need to learn to play under pressure. Too much "boom kick" and not enough constructive play. This to me belies a lack of confidence in oneself and one's teammates to NOT lose the ball when in possession.
11 - If we REALLY want to improve with this bunch, we need better coaching. This coaching staff has carried us as far as they can go. They've done their best and kudos to them for doing so and getting us this far. We're now ready to take the next step. There's encouragment here for the future but this current coaching staff cannot cut it.
12 - I like Sean De Silva. But the honest truth is that playing his football in the United States at the college level is not going to cut it at this level. Leston Paul had a horrible game too...especially in the first half where he was a non entity. Hyland was in the game but his passing was woeful. Hopefully that's an anomaly and not the norm. However, one could see at times when he had possession, they couldn't get the ball off of him, he shaped well etc. I also think he's being played out of position but I believe the same of Jake Thompson and look how well he played. At the end of the day, you're a footballer. You should be able to play wherever to help your team.
13 - Before ah fuhget.....CONGRATS JEAN LUC ROCHFORD on a well taken goal! Put it away nicely. Teach Juma how to do it please 8). Rochford did well until he had to come off. Good shift.

Ok ... my bad for the name calling...my first assessment the friendly how much we play and win...two....we can't play without the ball i see that with senior team and i seeing that with the U20 team...three we can't hold possession..i see that with the senior team and i saw that today in the game... four...defend..we cannot defend in the middle and our third..i see that with our senior team and i see that in the game today...should i going on..but i will...know fight to win......went we came out in the second half....we came out flat we never put pressure on Egypt...with coaching.. you see a player.. getting burn...but yet still you wait still the 69min to take him off...after the third goal socre..that my assessment...WENT ARE WE GOING TO LEARN..you may think that a good performace...and a lard luck fellas display...for me they not adressing the problem...we shoulda beat Egypt today..BUT SAME SHIT

So you see the man play one game and ready to banish him forever? Doh mind all the good games he had in the qualifiers and warm-up games, all the goals he scored, etc. This one game for you define him as the worst ting in a tugs
... and on the flip side we see a man play one good game and he is a better crosser than anything on our national team? ::)
Breds, did I say he is the worst thing in a tugs or he should be bannished from the team? I just think he should be water boy to show him that his pick not certain. Now Juma on ther hand just look like he belong on the starting 11.
Well last time i checked, the water boy was not part of the team....so i think that qualifies as banishing him
Breds, its a figure of speech, its means, he should not start. You not Trini or what?
Breds, anybody who ever get called a water boy never see the field. So come again....nobody does call a substitute (who actually gets some playing time) a water boy. At BEST it's a sub who has a permanent space on the bench.
If you want to take it literal, take win. All the same, De Silva should not start next game.

if anyone comes across any highlights online, please post. much thanks.

If you know about football you can look at the type of crosses Jake played- the pace on them, loop and curl behind the defense and away from the keeper- right between the two-consistently and accurately finding our players in the box- and know you could count on one hand the number of our senior players that can even deliver one of those type crosses in a match, and you can also count on one hand the number of matches you've seen any of them deliver more than one of those type of crosses. Which of our players have you seen hit consistent top quality crosses of that type throughout ANY one match?
Looking at the way you could see him calculating before he crossed, you see he has it worked out in his mind and know exactly what he's doing- and isn't hit-n-hope like most of our players, float it in when it's supposed to be hit with pace, or cross it to the keeper consistently(or more like how most of our players are trained), so even if he messes up crosses in other matches- you know he actually has the ability to hit that type of cross at least a few times single match- unlike almost all of our players.
Of course a good player is much more than having being a great crosser of the ball- just look at David Bently at tottenham, but this Jake fella showed more than that, and if he keeps on developing his game and himself physically(he looks very fit, but needs to bulk up a bit-like Theo Walcott has done, he looks a bit too small and weak for top level football- he'll prob. get pushed aside a bit too easily), I can really see him making it in England, I just really hope he overlooks the chaos that goes on in T&T football and decides to play for our senior team.
Carlos is a great player, but I maintain that the only reason I feel he didn't make it into the EPL sooner and stayed there is the lax way our players are taught to cross the ball, hit-n-hope. That's not tolerated in the top leagues- the ball being too off target must be an anomaly- cause unlike us-to them crossing isn't a 50-50 dice roll. There'll be the few players top players that are excellent at it and have consistent Beckham-like accuracy, but all players are expected to at least get the ball pretty close to or exactly on target consistently.
Also, give DeSilva a break, the guy just had a bad game, he looked nervous too, he has plenty time to step up his game, he's still young after all.

Four goals for Pharaohs
Egypt made a winning start to their FIFA U-20 World Cup campaign, defeating Trinidad and Tobago 4-1 in Alexandria. Watched by a crowd of over 84,000, which included FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, the hosts' goals were almost as memorable as the opening ceremony, which preceded the match.
In a frenetic first half, it was Trinidad and Tobago who had the better of the opening exchanges. Jean-Luc Rochford's free-kick from the edge of the area was palmed past the post by Aly Lofty as the hosts started nervously. However, as the half wore on, Egypt's confidence grew and their first shot on goal, through Shebab Ahmed acted as a starting point for a prolonged period of pressure.
Mohamed Talaat and Ahmed both had half chances and Hussam Arafat should have done better when he stabbed a close-range effort narrowly wide. With their next attack, Ahmed Magdy spun past Daneil Cyrus and fired a shot which whistled just past the upright. The hosts' dominance was finally rewarded with a goal when in the 27th minute Afroto powered his way past Sean De Silva and Uriah Bentick to fire the ball between the legs of Glenroy Samuel and into the net.
Egypt could have doubled their advantage five minutes later, but Samuel made a fantastic flying save to deny Talaat at close range. T&T then broke quickly through Jake Thomson down the right hand side. The Southampton man cut inside, beating several Egyptian defenders in the process, and slipped a ball into the path of Rochford, who finished well.
Buoyed by a passionate crowd, the hosts came out of the blocks quickly after the interval and Samuel made a fantastic save to palm Arafat's downward header out for a corner. From the resulting set-piece , the keeper's weak punch fell to Arafat on the edge of the box, who made no mistake with a low drive. Then, shortly before the hour mark, Talaat got the goal his efforts deserved when he fired home after Samuel could only parry Ahmed's powerful drive into his path.
Despite the deficit, Zoran Vranes's side never gave up and only the quick reflexes of Lofty and the woodwork prevented them from pulling one back. Substitute Juma Clarence sprinted past Ahmed Hegazy before connecting with a high ball, which the keeper deflected wide for a corner. Then, in the closing minutes, the big striker crashed a shot against the post.
The islanders misery was completed in added time when Arafat struck a curling shot from the edge of the box that flew past the keeper, which had both Presidents, Blatter and Mubarak, nodding in approval - and 84,000 Egyptian fans in delirium.

dumalewie...yea ah go bump meh gum on this one.......so you saying that they try their best...went this team is not consistent with basic football in game.....ah could see why you and Arimaman settle for second and third best so you don't have a problem the way they playing...with any team coming out of T&T....that why we get 4...and the last time in 91 they give us 6...you guy's seeing T&T played in a different light...always putting another team ahead of us...i guess that their best...as you say...dumalewie...you have a small goal mentality and by the way....if they did play their best...we woulda win the game

Good game fellas! i see alot of positives, but also negatives too, De Silva worry me the most. he had no speed or awareness on the ball today. Nice goal at least we score.

Man I hope Sean De Silva eh read this forum till WC done
For real
Was anything that was said about him regarding his performance in today's game inaccurate?
If he harbors ANY ambition at all to be a professional footballer in the top leagues, what was posted here today about his performance is VERY MINOR compared to what professional footballers go through on a regular basis.
What if he had to endure what Stern John deals with from EVERY TEAM'S FANS that he plays for?

lol you guys sure hyland had a bad game seem like every picture of T&T he have the ball at this feet... pics from the official website hylights dey 2...

BrownSugar, De Silva HAS played MUCH better than he did today, HOWEVER, having said that I think even HE will admit that he played poorly TODAY... but as Palos said, he wasn't the only one! I don't remember our Captain making a single constructive play in the first half! In fact at imes I wondered exactly what he was even doing on the field...BUT he had a MUCH improved second half!!! Based on what I saw today tho, I'd start Clarence instead of De Silva and I also support Small Mag's contribution about the defence... Curtis Gonzales was to me, one of our best defenders in the Qualifying...his lack of height/size might be why he was left out... Vranes seems to likeTall/Big Defenders - Bentick/Primus/Adams, ALL either tall/Big or BOTH... overall the team has room for improvement in tracking players, especially in mid-field... if we learn from today we will do MUCH better against Italy and Paraguay.. once again I hope the technical staff have a GOOD luck at their game tomorow and take COPIUS NOTES to prepare tactically for next week's game... I also agree that Thompson should be drafted into the Senior team... while he may not start, but from today's performance he can cetainly at least contribute something even coming off the bench, and our next two qualifiers are ideal, as we are already eliminated from 2010, so it's the perfect low-pressure forum to exposure young talent to the harsh realities of World Cup Qualifying (Costa Rica and Mexico will BOTH be bringing their "A" game!) Good Luck to the team... I commend the effort... next stop for these guys should be CAC games, followed by the 2012 Olympics and of course Brazil 2014!

Boss, I never ever said the team played well. Look at my posts. I said from the 69 minute onwards we started to look organized. Frankly, for the first 69 minutes it was backs and forwards as we scored against the run of play... We as a nation doh want to creep before we walk we feel we always ready to reach.
We taking baby steps partner baby steps. I know how hard them fellas worked so I will not really criticize them. In 1990 I worked really hard to be part of the 1991 team and I was not good enough to make the WC team and I knew how hard those guys worked and still get plenty in Portugal. It's not for a lack of effort but everybody expect us to just train hard with a bunch of amateurs and show up in Egypt and win. Not happening!!!
I hoping that we win or at least draw a game and I'll be content with that. At the end of the day I'm realistic. Call me a pessimist, but I'm believe I'm a realist. You keep on dreaming.... to think we could play along with the big boys on a consistent basis....good luck partner.

some ppl on here gettin on like we not supposed to be critical of these players at all. why? because of their age?
dont get me wrong, i think d team had a good game, is jus d result was unfortunate

Our problems at de back show up at every level. Men turning square to ball watch and man who dey supposed to be marking running wild behind dey back. The concentration level is poor. We always seem to be last to 50-50 balls and rebounds. Seems like we cyah keep shape with all good intentions for 90 minutes. Even on de Seniour Team, de so called overseas players on defense playing for tata squads. Ah lie? We have midfielders and forwards to spare but defense is an afterthought in our football. Clean score sheet doh mean nutten...man does pay to see people get rape and dialing wrong number on de field. Dat mentality have to change. We must learn to win ugly away from home with a hostile home crowd who monkey glands raise about a month now in anticipation. This is one of our most prepared teams ever and dey collect wood. Is Jake Thompson man talking bout when is a few JLloyds who we should be looking for. Anyway if yuh compare our preparation to Egypt - they played about 80 Internationals before today's game. Let's upset some teams. We have de talent to do so. Go T&T and light it up.

fellas and female...to be real our standard of football right now...its at a all time low...iam so upset

Also, give DeSilva a break, the guy just had a bad game, he looked nervous too, he has plenty time to step up his game, he's still young after all.
yuh know what, i eh even go fight it down cause this is a good post.. :beermug:
thomson had ah best game, no doubt about it.. suffice it to say its not my style to make premature assessments.
lewwe talk again when the tournament done.

I find them fellas let 3 shit goal score on dem...the last one was a good goal.
We start good...then flop...ketch back ourselves and then start the 2nd half slow and well it was all over.
If we had taken our chances we coulda draw that match 3-3.
I find we does just look slow, running, closing down space, attacking i doh know what it is.
The first goal Da Silva get burn and he had a good 10-15 meters before the box...leggo a blade and take out the man and take one for the team. Then the defender get blow past too and Glenroy instead of spreading big and diving at the man foot, come with a knock knee pose and the man slip the ball right by his hand.
The second goal Glenroy do shit too...yuh want to punch...hold the ball...dais why the man leggo a bullet on the follow up.
The third goal he ent hold onto it neither all the fly and dive heroics he do to make up.
the 4th was a real good goal but the midfielders escort the man into the area and let him pick his spot. I think he get a hand onto that ball too.
Them fellas coulda win this match they just ent step up.

nah man, yuh cant put that first goal on Glenroy, he do the right thing..
he come off his line to close down the angle and make himself big.. the knock knee pose was to prevent the striker from putting the ball through his legs; which is what would have likely happen if he had rush out wild.. anytime he lie down there is just to slap at the open goal.
in all truth, baldhead do good to open his frame and slot in the difficult corner with his left foot, and with the defenders flanking him to boot.

I remember when jamaica Tied Egypt o-o in a u20 WC and they (egyptians) went on to finish 3rd .
now you play egypt with lots of pressure on the host and get walk over . Jamaicans are superior ! :P
???
Are all Jamaicans this retarded?
Ignoring it would have been much more eloquent than giving it the attention it craves.

Man I hope Sean De Silva eh read this forum till WC done
For real
Jah Gol I know you have been following this team from since U-17 days...what are your thoughts/opinions about him??
I thought he's a good player who had a horrible game. He was actually one of our best players in qualifying. The transition from the Concacaf stage to the World stage prove too tough for him in that game. He has character he must show it in the remaining games.

The comments about his actual performance are not unjustified.

No wonder we players does end up at Swansea, Wrexham, Falkirk and such. While othet coutries players ending up at Man United (Fabio et al), Arsenal (Fabregas), Inter (Balotelli), etc. Keep babying them and see how much it go help them.
EDIT:
We criticizing Ronaldo since what age? We does say how Pato eh living up to the hype. Remember the Theread Adebayor should not be near an EPL team?

dumalewie...yea ah go bump meh gum on this one.......so you saying that they try their best...went this team is not consistent with basic football in game.....ah could see why you and Arimaman settle for second and third best so you don't have a problem the way they playing...with any team coming out of T&T....that why we get 4...and the last time in 91 they give us 6...you guy's seeing T&T played in a different light...always putting another team ahead of us...i guess that their best...as you say...dumalewie...you have a small goal mentality and by the way....if they did play their best...we woulda win the game
Nobody here say that they want to lose or we are settling for less than the best.
It seems that you think we have a divine right to be the best. However, to be the best it takes hard work, planning and execution. When you have opposition that has a bigger pool to chose from and more resources to work with then it means that you have to double your efforts to compete. Do you think that we doubled our efforts to prepare these guys?
The point is, I have seen improvement which is progress. Are we there yet? Of course not. We have a long way to go before we can consistently put out competitive teams.
The world isn't black or white fella. It's not either glory or doom and gloom. If you can't see any positive in the performance then it's impossible to have a reasoned discussion with you.

Just finally get to watch the 1 st half of this game, and the only thing going through my mind was how could a coach not be able to get GREAT football out of these ATHLETES!!? I keep seeing where opposing coaches and other commentators keep saying that the typical caribbean team is "athletic and speedy" and that we were "physical" and I just could not see what they were referring to, thinking maybe they were thinking about Jamaica, until just now.
This group of players just "well put together" on an individual basis. Nothing clumsy or weak about any of them (except Desilva who I found looked rather out of sorts and overwhelmed, but that is another story). And psychologically, there is absolutely no fear (except perhaps Desilva in this game), but this team was always mentally strong.
The coaching is extremely poor. There is the problem. There is a BIG gap too often between the last line and the midfield, and the defenders always have to just boots the ball straight up front. What kinda bullshit gameplay is that from this team? Is like 1930's football. There seems to be no concept of possession play. The one time ah man try to keep the ball and run down in Egypt penalty area with the ball at his feet(Thomson), goal score. I mean, how come long pass from out the back has not just been absolutely forbidden and banned!!!?? Isn't that all you have to insist on as a coach in training? That gap would close right away. The team has not been coached properly.
Too often, defenders rushing the ball out for a corner or a throw when keeper Samuel RIGHT DEY and rushing for ball too. No communication. This from a team that has been "best prepared"? And I see them keeping men onside. That does just piss me off and is a sign of poor coaching.
Men saying Thomson is the greatest thing since slice bread but in the first half, my best player was Primus. Maybe in the second half. I seeing a team of fit, athletic players begging for someone to show them how to play. A new coach is in order.

Top shelf players and bargain bin coaches.

this was their first game in the biggest tournaments these youths ever played in in their life. . in front of what was probably the biggest crowd they ever played for. . . i think them fellas give a decent account of themselves given their psychological state ... the next game they have no excuse except getting over the fear of italy as a supposed "big name" ..

Egypt keeper allowed them to build the momentum needed infront of Their HOME fans

Just finish watching the 2nd half. Like they read mih post :) and ban the long ball. They try possession right through and look better, and because of that had 3 man vs keeper opportunities. Egypt keeper did well. Paul was in the game more too because of the possession game. Desilva actually look sick to me, he was so out of it. Worse players for me were him, Gay and Hyland. Totally disappointed in those 2 professionals. Thomson picked it up in the 2nd and play some nice crosses and run the line. Him, Primus and Cyrus were the best players for me on the night.
Obviously the instruction for the 2nd half was to possess the ball, so kudos to the staff. The defensive posture was good, even great at times, (are we seeing the genesis of good defence in Trini ball!!?),but the breakdowns were catastrophic and these happened when midfield did not keep up with the man on the ball runnin out of midfield. Coaching again!!
Somebody needs to tell Trinidad players they need to pass ALL, I MEAN ALL, passes, long and short with speed and authority. I doh mean to play faster, but to make the ball reach the next man with pace on it. Too many dribbling along, unhurried, near hang man passes that does give man time to recover and set for the next pass. We little better but work on it.
Still love this team, it potentially has greatness in it just because we have some good players, even on the bench, but we need to improve team play. The coaches need to step up and make these guys play all the time how they play when they up against the wall. Ah well, on to Paraguay.

BM here...
anyone stop to think for one second that Sean De Silva's father is the national team manager in Egypt ???....
could it be this is too much to deal with....I not making excuses for the kid....but is an observation....who knows ???
easy to say he is a shithound...harder to find the reason why...and i also thought he was very poor in the game...so too leston...gay...hyland..and dem fadder not dey

We have to make some readjustment for our mid field. Only one of the mids (Jake) seem to be ready for this tournament. Leston and Sean have to step up. They in the fire now. No more second guessing for them. They have to control the mid when they get the ball. Gay and the other forward were not getting decent service to do anything effectively. Do we want the forwards to come below mid field to get the ball. Then what is the purpose of the mid-fielders. Sean and Leston have to close down on their man quicker and tackle. The defence can stop the opponets most of the time, but not all the time if they running thru our middle time and time again. The defence only hitting long ball because the mids are not giving them suitable options. Look, lets see what plans the coaches ahve. The ball is in their court.
Next game should be a better game for everybody. They play in front of big crowd so they should not feel too much nervousness. Come on Leston and Sean.
Guys we should critic the players in a honest manner. To say that one of players is a token is kinder sad. That player score an important goal in the pre-lims to get us there. I did not here people calling him a token when he was playing well for the past 2 years. He is no johnny-come lately on the team, like Jake. And I am glad Jake is a johnny-come lately, because if he was not there, we may have collected a half dozen.
-
Like people forget vranes start hyland upfront with gay and he is a defensive central mid ... how you expect him to perform ...
-
Well we can't pick Vranes mind can we?
-

Everybody keep saying Hyland a defensive mid but watching this guy play he shows alot of offensive talent on the national team. Hyland always attacking so i don't see why thats such a big problem and he score for us on two big occasions already...

To be honest, I did not see Spain. Well including them too. But Nigeria first touch and ball control are impressive.

I looking at Ghana v Uzbek. Everybody on the Ghana team as tall as our two center backs.
