Guyanese striker Nigel Codrington registered a double on Tuesday as Neal and Massy Caledonia trashed Ma Pau SC 5-1 at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium.
The win pushed Caledonia AIA up two places into third on the League standings with 10 points, 8 points behind leaders United Petrotrin.
While Ma Pau SC dropped two places and now sit at the bottom of the table in tenth with just four points.
However Ma Pau opened the scoring against the Stallions when Cornell Glen converted a penalty in the third minute. Glen was brought down inside the area by Howard Lowe forcing the match referee to point to the spot and the T&T World Cup player finished comfortably past goalkeeper Michael Woods for an early 1-0 advantage. Lowe picked up a yellow card for the infringement.
But by the 23rd minute Caledonia AIA took control of the match when midfielder Kendall Velox ran onto a deflected effort by teammate Hayden Tinto to score into an open net to equalize 1-1.
Nigel Codrington made it 2-1 ten minutes later, Velox the provider when his cross into the area found Codrington and the Guyanese forward outran two defenders before slotting the ball past goalkeeper Anthony Marshall.
The only thing Ma Pau’s Cornell Glen managed for the remainder of the half was a bruised face after suffering an accidental elbow.
The scores remained the same at the break with Caledonia enjoying a 2-1 advantage.
Following the break Densill Theobald made it 3-1 in the 67th minute after taking down a cross inside the area to shoot left footed past the Ma Pau goalie.
Two minutes later Nigel Codrington completed his double before being replaced late in the match, Velox again the provider, to shoot past Marshall for a 4-1 lead.
And to wrap things up, Codrignton’s replacement Kerwyn Jemmott fired in a right footer past Marshall as the Ma Pau goalie conceded his fifth item in their 5-1 defeat.
Caledonia AIA will visit the Dwight Yorke Stadium to take on Tobago United in their next match on Tuesday while Ma Pau SC will meet St Ann’s Rangers at the Larry Gomes Stadium.
