Good luck young fella... and whatever the final outcome, acquit yourself well at all times and make the best of your opportunity :beermug:

honestly Terry Fenwick had very little to do with the jabloteh youth academy when most of the now u23's and u 20's played with them it was actually Angus Eve and Nigel Grosvenor and others who were the main youth coaches, just saying.

So he never played for a team and get a European tryout, well done. Only individual training, not play with any team and get a top try-out, why his father not coaching a Youth National Team?
-
He getting his tryout for technical ability .....and that what he learned individually ....so when he reached secondary school and jab he was technically ahead of the rest and hence has always been a standout and above d rest
-
Playing the team enhanced his knowledge obviously

I can understand this comment. Whatever natural ability you are born with, it can only be enhanced by continual practice. Playing with other kids in the streets develops certain skills, but can also develop bad habits. Youth football coaches are usually only concerned with results, not development. By spending countless hours with a parent or adult just practicing passing, ball control, shooting. heading gives the player a much more assured skill base. And guess what...it also tightens the bond between father and son.
When my son was signed by Gillingham at 5 years old, it was because of his technical ability compared to others his age. Unfortunately, he never had a real gift that would take him further. From the moment he walked, we played football. He loved it and we had great times together. So, he never made it as a player, but we're real close...and thats a far greater reward.
Youth development has to start at age 5. It shouldn't be work...it should be fun. Those with a natural ability will be keen to develop their skills. It has to start with the parents.

Nah...he peaked at 7 lol Once the other kids grew taller and stronger he just kept getting knocked off the ball! He still plays in sunday league and stuff. His claim to fame is replacing Stern John in a fete match earlier in the year!

Any word on the trials?

W Connection youngster Woo Ling invited back to Spurs.
W Connection Press Release.
Fifteen year old W Connection Senior team player Matthew Woo Ling has been invited back for a second look by Tottenham Hotspur’s Academy for an extensive ten day final assessment trial.
In December 2011, the player spent five days at the Academy just long enough to peak their interests so much that they have footed all his travel and accommodation expenses surrounding the upcoming trip.
This round of trial could produce long term benefits for the player.
As you may recall, this young midfielder made his senior team Pro League debut at the beginning of the 2011/2012 season and has been a consistent member of W Connection’s Senior team 18 man roster for games.
Recent video highlights posted on YouTube of Matthew’s performances for W Connection’s Senior Reserves versus other Pro League teams have sparked a huge amount of interest in his talent and has gotten the attention of two Serie A teams in Italy who have expressed serious interest in having him over.
Matthew will travel to the Tottenham Hotspur’s Academy on the 17th of March where he will train till the 26th of March.
-
Lovely, Lovely! All the best Woo-Ling. We're rooting for yuh
-
Lovely news !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Surprisingly he never played for any of the T&T youth teams, now if he signs for Spurs the TTFF might finally call him up.
Typical.
-
Can't sign unless he have international experience ....right ?

he would go into their academy .....

Wish him the absolute best. Blaze it!!!

good stuff. we have about 3-4 other youngsters who on par or close to this in their respective positions. but again they will never go anywhere if stuck in t&t in the youth pro-league

Not sure how this works but wouldn't the player need to have a european passport to even be accepted into the academy?

Not sure how this works but wouldn't the player need to have a european passport to even be accepted into the academy?
But wasn't Jones accepted into Southampton academy ?
And - even if they have to loan him out to a club in another European country that is affiliated with Spurs ?
I am sure there are loop holes.... ;)
-
Jones got a student visa that was the loop hole flex
-
I'm pretty sure all of those loop holes have been plugged now. I notice the academies hardly have any players originating from outside Europe. I think it may have to do with European labour laws. Really not to sure. Either way I think it's highly impossible for a child to be accepted into a european academy without a european passport/ visa.
Also wasn't Kenwyne Jones signed as a full professional? He signed for Southampton at the age of 20 not so?

Nah, they come on a sort of academic visa. They are theoretically in a school, and they have to go to school while perfecting their trade. Remember, they can't sign pro contract in UK until they are 17. By that time, the player may already be recognised as "home grown", thus waiving the foreign player requirements.
-
The fellas who play Championship Manager should be able to explain the exact rules... ;D
-
I got this off the Fa website.
Article 19 Protection of Minors
1. International transfers of players are only permitted if the player
is over the age of 18.
2. The following three exceptions to this rule apply:
a) The player’s parents move to the country in which the New Club
is located for reasons not linked to football; or
b) The transfer takes place within the territory of the European
Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA) and the player is
aged between 16 and 18. In this case, the New Club must fulfil
the following minimum obligations:
i. It shall provide the player with an adequate football education
and/or training in line with the highest national standards.
ii. It shall guarantee the player an academic and/or school
and/or vocational education and/or training, in addition
to his football education and/or training, which will allow
the player to pursue a career other than football should he
cease playing professional football.
iii. It shall make all necessary arrangements to ensure that the
player is looked after in the best possible way (optimum living
standards with a guest family or in club accommodation,
appointment of a mentor at the club etc.).
iv. It shall, on registration of such a player, provide the relevant
Association with proof that it is complying with the
aforementioned obligations; or
c) The player lives no further than 50km from a national border,
and the club for which the player wishes to be registered in the
neighbouring Association is also within 50km of that border.
The maximum distance between the player’s domicile and the
club’s quarters shall be 100km. In such cases, the player must
continue to live at home and the two Associations concerned
must give their explicit consent.

b) The transfer takes place within the territory of the European
Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA)
I presume this means Martinique, Guadeloupe, Cayenne, St. Martin, marie Galant and St. bethelmy?
-
Big up to young Woo Ling, all the hard work that he put in as a youngster is paying off... I wish him all the best
-
Boy some of the highlights I see of this youth man on Youtube last night was ridiculous. Making big men in Pro League Reserve matches look like little boys. He is a true talent and hopefully this exposure away helps him develop to the potential talent that he really is.
-

Aye count as EU

Like things didn't wok out. ?

From what I recall, mainland Europe has a more relaxed immigration policy than UK. For instance, Arsenal use a Belgium club to place players from Belgian colonies in Africa such as Congo. Once the player joins the Belgian club at 16, by the time he's 18 he can get a Belgian passport, and is therefore a EU citizen and can move on to Arsenal. Those who don't make the grade are sold or released.
Some research may be needed to confirm this, but I believe Spain recognise T&T as a former colony. If this is so, English clubs could place T&T players in Spain and after 2 years bring them to UK.
I have looked into this, but there are some problems. The major one is with the players who want to stay in college football until 18/19 and are then too old. The second is that there appears not to be enough talent in T&T for UK clubs to invest in this (they would be paying all the costs to the Spanish club).
Glen Hoddle has a nice academy in Spain with Graham Rix, and Spurs would be a natural fit, but they can invest their money in other countries where there are more numerous talented youngsters. However, if we can get 4 or 5 players out, then European clubs may change their minds.

Reivers earn a share of the ICCAC conference championship
Oct 24, 2017
Waterloo, Iowa - Reivers earn a share of the ICCAC conference championship
After a clutch victory over conference rivals Marshalltown CC on Sunday and a dominant performance over Hawkeye CC on Tuesday, the Reivers earn a share of the ICCAC conference title. Matthew Woo Ling, ICCAC Player of the Week, scored the game winner versus Marshalltown and Hawkeye. The freshman midfielder from Trinidad and Tobago has been an instrumental part of the Reivers offense and defense the past three games. Also, left wing back Joseph Connolly has combined with his teammates on seven different occasions, leading the team with seven assists. The Reivers are now tied for the second longest shutout streak in program history with seven consecutive shutouts. Their stingy defense has allowed eight goals on the season and is fifth in the nation with a 0.60 goals against average. Goalkeepers Jan Hoffelner and Yuichiro Hayami have each contributed to the fantastic defensive performances.
The Region XI playoffs begin on Saturday, October 28th where No. 3 Marshalltown Community College host No. 6 Northeast Community College in Marshalltown, IA and No. 4 Iowa Central Community College hosts No. 5 North Iowa Area Community College in Fort Dodge, IA. The winner of the Marshalltown and Northeast game will travel to Council Bluffs play No. 2 Iowa Western and the winner of the Iowa Central and NIACC game will travel to Ottumwa, IA to play No. 1 Indian Hills. The Region XI championship game will be played on Saturday, November 4th in Des Moines, IA at the James W. Cownie Sports Complex. All Region XI postseason information can be found at www.iccac.org.

Great start Woo Ling

Good going youth. But fellahs, I had to take a second read on this. What is a "Reiver". "Reivers" rhyme with "reefers".

Midfielder Matthew Woo Ling has joined Maltese Premier League club, St. Andrews FC.
-
I watched the playoff game for his school last year and he was just light years above any player on that field if T&T keep hiring coach's like S Hart, D Lawrence , Shabazz and the A Corneal T&T technically better players like S Da Silva ,M W Ling would not get a chance for T&T.
-
Let's see how he does in the Maltese league before passing judgement on we coaches
-
about midnight last night my mind fell on him, I googled him to see if there was anything, There wasn't and I come here a few hours later and see this.. ;)
Good luck Matthew.

Let's see how he does in the Maltese league before passing judgement on we coaches
I have been looking at the coach's in T&T for over 25 years now I don't need to see anymore from them the verdict has been read along time ago on these guys.
-
So what that mean? He leave school?
-
Always felt he was overrated. He never even dominated SSFL. The videos that were floating around highlighting his skills were basically him making some basic passes with a good soundtrack against poor opposition. Woo Ling was simply a decent player.
-
I found a game on youtube were his team loss 5-1 this is a team that is always fighting off relegation he seems to be playing in front of the defense the 1 that try's to break up plays and start the attack he looks good in spurts but inconsistent at times he has to step up to the speed of the game the stuff that he was able to do against collage players these season pro's are not giving him the time to do it I am sure in a couple more games he will step up to the speed of the game.
-
Maltese League is ranked 45th in Europe. If he cyah step up to that, well...
-
It's not ideal but it's a positive step for him. Being in Europe means he's more likely to get scouted by other European teams for one thing - they generally pay better than the MLS. If he can prove one of the better players in the league and secure a move to one of the better teams in Malta, he will have a shot at European competitions too.
The President is Jamaican and there's a whole bunch of them already there btw, interesting team, especially given the president recently argued against the 11 foreign player rule (saying it should be less).

Maybe he should be USL club hunting with that green card.

With that criteria, there would barely be any names at all, if you look from at least 2010. We just doh have those players any more.

Cast aside?
1. De Silva was not on the national senior team when Hart took over. Even so, 5 out of De Silva's 9 caps were under Hart.
2. Nathaniel Garcia made his debut under Hart.
3. Woo Ling was nowhere near the national side when Hart was hired. As a matter of fact he was still playing for St. Anthony's in the SSFL.

De Silva got his 1st cap under F Maturana S Hart begrudgingly capped De Silva he was never a part of his plans .
2. When S Hart had the U20 team in Jamaica he only used M W Ling for 1 game because of a suspension and 1 game as a substitute once again he turned 1 of the most talented youth teams to play for TT into a strong man team that only got 4 points out 15 when they should have gotten much more.
3. Probably 98% of the football coach's from TT was thought to play that outdated English football it does not matter if it is Hart Shabazz Corneal L Philips they are all a waste of time once TT got rid of F Maturana and Z Vranes it was all downhill from there TT just went back to playing that outdated English football were they got rid of there technically best players and go for power and strength which meant that players like S De Silva N Garcia and M W Ling would not be part of the squad.
