Return of the Earthquakes
« on: October 05, 2007, 06:14:59 PM »
Ok - nothing to do with T&T (except that John Doyle from the '89 US team will be GM) but since I've lived most of my life in the SF Bay Area I'm looking forward to their return.

SAN JOSE, CALIF. – The San Jose Earthquakes of Major League Soccer (MLS) today unveiled their newly redesigned team logo and Earthquakes home and away jerseys for the 2008 season.

The new uniforms were designed by adidas, the official uniform supplier of Major League Soccer, in collaboration with the Earthquakes. The design features the new Earthquakes logo, which features a slicker design and a slightly lighter color palette, on the top left chest of the jersey along with two silver stars representing the two MLS championship titles won by the Earthquakes franchise in 2001 and 2003. In addition, embroidery on the back of the neck of both the home and away jerseys will bear the 'San Jose' word mark.

"Our goal was to create a classic and clean jersey design that players and fans would wear with pride both on and off the field," explained David Alioto, San Jose Earthquakes Executive Vice President.

The Earthquakes home jersey is black with royal blue side insets, set off by white piping, accompanied by the white adidas three stripes down each sleeve. The words "San Jose" will prominently appear on the front in white lettering, with royal blue shadowing. These jerseys will be worn with royal blue shorts, which have white stripes on each leg and black socks.

Alternatively, the away jersey is white, with royal blue side insets, set off by black piping, accompanied by the black adidas three stripes down each sleeve. The word "Earthquakes" will appear on the front in royal blue lettering, with dark blue shadowing. The away jerseys will be worn with royal blue shorts, which have black stripes on each leg, and white socks.

Authentic and replica Earthquakes jerseys will be available to fans in April of 2008 at Earthquakes home games, through select Bay Area soccer retailers or online at sjearthquakes.com.

The San Jose Earthquakes are a Major League Soccer expansion franchise and will begin playing in April of 2008. Season ticket deposits for the 2008 Earthquakes season are on sale and can be purchased by calling (408) 282-2808 or online at sjearthquakes.com.

SAN JOSE, CALIF. – The San Jose Earthquakes announced today the club has named John Doyle as the General Manager of Soccer Operations. Doyle will be responsible for all aspects of the club's soccer operations, including the selection of coaching staff, the first team, the reserve team, and the club's player development programs.

"The addition of John to the Earthquakes is the first step in putting together a competitive and exciting team for 2008," stated Michael Crowley, President, San Jose Earthquakes. "John's experience in developing young soccer talent throughout the country, combined with his years of experience both on and off the field, makes him a perfect fit for the Earthquakes franchise."

Doyle spent the past nine years as the Director of Coaching for Mustang Soccer, where he was responsible for the training and development of coaches who oversee over 5,000 children from the Danville, Alamo, Walnut Creek and San Ramon areas. In 2001, he was elected to the U.S. Soccer Board of Directors and was named to the U.S. Soccer Technical Committee the following year.

In 1997, Doyle was the first player selected by the San Jose Clash of Major League Soccer. Doyle was named team captain each of the five seasons he played with the Earthquakes organization. He was named MLS Defender of the Year in 1996 and was a member of the MLS West All-Star Team in 1997.
